Today I came back to EVE by reacquiring my trial account from four years ago. I started by starting the career missions I never finished, but I've run into a snag. Most missions have been fairly straight forward however the third exploration mission Ore Site Scanning is giving me a lot of trouble. I'm supposed to go to an ore site and find proof of discovery, except the only two ore sites in the system don't have anything except ruins and some asteroids. I've tried looking around online, but it seems like the only information I'm finding is from about four years ago and that the quest is bugged. Am I stuck with a bugged quest? Is there something I'm missing?

This is my mission briefing if that helps.

So far you've proven you can discover a Cosmic Anomaly with the On-Board Scanner and that you understand in basic terms the difference between Cosmic Signatures. Now we're going to retread the steps you just took in more detail and have you properly scan down one of each signature type. This will demonstrate to us that you not only have an understanding of the different signatures, but also the skill to find each of them. Remember – you can only find Cosmic Signatures by using Core Scanner Probes.

Your first task is to discover an Ore signature somewhere inside this system. You will only find the target site in here, so don't waste your time searching anywhere else. This is not a real asteroid cluster you are looking for, Anu Erebus, it is another controlled training environment, so there will be no hostile vessels inside and the asteroids themselves cannot be mined for profit. It is hidden though, just like a real one would be, and will need to be scanned down. This won't be easy, Anu Erebus. Expect a much harder challenge than On-Board scanning. I'm confident you'll get the hang of it eventually though, just be patient and I'm confident you'll find the site. Once you have managed that, your only task is to recover another “Proof of Discovery” document from inside. It will serve as physical evidence that you discovered the area.

Take this passkey with you when you begin your exploration, you will need it to access the second room of the area with the “Proof of Discovery” documents inside. Obviously, we only want capsuleers-in-training to be able to get that far.

Ore Site Scanning Objectives
The following objectives must be completed to finish the mission:

Bring Item Objective
Acquire these goods:
Drop-off Location 0.9 Hadaugago II - Moon 1 - Republic Military School
Item 1 x Proof of Discovery: Ore (1.0 m³)

Granted Items
The following item was granted to you when the mission was accepted 1 x Proof of Discovery: Ore Passkey

Rewards
The following rewards will be yours if you complete this mission: 1 x Survey

Bonus Rewards
The following rewards will be awarded to you as a bonus if you complete the mission within 4 hours and 54 minutes 126,000 ISK

Hints and tips for Ore Sites
- The lower the security status of a system, the better the ore you can find in such sites.
- Ore sites often have better ore than asteroid belts.
- In real, non-training Ore sites, you can expect pirates. They might not always show themselves immediately too, so be careful. Sometimes they will wait until you start mining.
- If the asteroids inside a site are mined out, the area will obviously no longer be detectable to scanners. No asteroids, no signature.
- Asteroid clusters shift over time. They will never remain in any one position for very long. Most miners agree that the time period is approximately three days. After that, signatures tend to vanish as debris and other slowly drifting matter obscures them and prevents a clear scan.

You can petition to have the career mission reset, I have'nt heard of ore sites in career missions in a while. These career mission resets are usually handled very fast.

That mission no longer exists.

In one of their less sensible moves a while back, CCP changed ore sites from cosmic signatures that have to be probed to anomalies that are visible to everyone.

There are some new introduction / tutorial missions that are only available to new characters. I have not tried them myself but you might want to try making a new character on your same account just to run the new missions and then go back to your old character after you've tried them out.

Alternatively you could just start another account. Either way you could just try out the new intro missions if you are looking for something like that.

Options:

1. Create new character, do the new tutorial and the new / changed career missions, then transfer all your stuff to your current character, to continue.

2. Abandon that mission and use your current character to do the career agent missions in a different location.

3. From the mission text, you should take your passkey with you in the ship cargo, then probe down the site and warp to it, then take the acceleration gate to the second pocket of the site, where the container should be.
