Hi everyone,
I am in a good mood and I have been trying very hard to smile for my portrait but as you can see I cannot smile happily enough.
Why do CCP limit our ability to smile for the portrait?
I really wish I can even laugh in my photo.
Please consider this.
Thank you.

Smiles and laughter don't match with CCP's "dark and gritty" vision of the universe.

On the outside I'm smiling, but on the inside I'm actually plotting how to murder everyone and take their stuff...

You'd never know it looking at my smiley face though!

Ive seen smiles,
Granted they pretty much all look like someone's wearing someone else's face but I've seen them.

You can get a pretty good smirk going though

Atleast we can hint a smile. I would like to be able to look really batshit crazy too. The current portrait system makes it hard to convey much emotion at all.

I've tried a few smirks.. I've settled for the judgement-stare or maybe a resting ***** face. Cool

Don't open your mouth people.

I guess it depends on your definition of a smile.

CCP is looking to hook into the massive amount of depressed people on the internet.

Once people see how unhappy they can be in EVE we will be massively popular!!!

Until WWII, smiling was seen as the act of one unburdened by heavy thoughts or responsibilities. This was inverted by celebrity culture. The French President F. Mitterand had to get his teeth fixed, i'm told, since smiling showed his sharp eye teeth and made him look a bit scary.
Not everyone has a nice smile, even a tiny bit off and a smile looks like an uncanny-valley mannequin grimace. A smile is a vital expression that invades the eyes and our ability to read expressions makes simulating them a really tough job.
Stern grimaces and such are morbid and require a lifelessness perfect for CGI.

Smiles are tricky to pull off with the char creator. I tried once, but instead it looked like I was baring my teeth. Might be OK to do that among Eve players, but don't do it among baboons.

My clone has defective facial muscles.

A Minmatar warship is like a rusting Beetle with 500 horsepower Cardillac engines in the rear, armour plating bolted to chassis and a M2 Browning stuck on top.

Because grimdark was popular 2 years before the current portrait art came out, and CCP's nothing if not 2 years behind on trends.
