Damn.... Thanks. I once shot at the tv that is near the gates and the damn thing shot back. Hope ccp allows them to be destroyed. I like to mine in peace.lol

So, each gate SENDS you to the destination.

To isolate the system where you're mining, you'd have to destroy the gates in the neighboring systems that lead TO your system, in effect blockading yourself (along with everyone else) outside your system, unable to get in.

Also, CCP will set it up so we can BUILD gates before they let us destroy the NPC ones. Therefore, a million PVP'ers will be able to build stargates from all over the map, leading to your special mining spot, just because they can.

You sure this is the future you want?

player build gates will not automatically mean that existing stargates will be made destructible.

The new structures that are being rolled out are intended to replace the functionality of PoS's and Outposts.
Outposts have been more or less completely replaced now, and being indestructible was a mistake from the beginning, and so those will be made destructible some time in the future (probably with a timer system similar to citadels.)

player made gates however are not strictly a replacement for existing gates, they are a replacement for pos jump bridges. as such there is zero reason to assume that the existing gates will become destructible. just like there is no talk about making NPC stations destructible.

And just like pos bridges, player made stargates will likely be similarly restricted in where they can be anchored.

Not saying it is wrong, just interested in the source. The last I remember CCP Seagull saying is that player built stargates will allow access to new areas of space, with new mechanics which seems a bit more than jump bridge replacements.

Personally I like the idea of player made stargates leading to 'deep space', which would be vaguely like WH space but with the connections built and destroyed by players. You could travel from A to B through normal space or sneak through deep space.

I think player built stargates will be used to explore Jove space, especially since the entire Jovian Jumpgate system is offline.

Yes I know that Seagull said that once, however there has been no word on the progress of that ever since.

I don't doubt that opening up new areas of space could still be on the roadmap, but in the short term at least their goals are to replace PoS functionality and phase them out. the only two functions that have not been replaced yet are moon mining (and reactions for moon goo and booster gas, but since those two mechanics are similar they will probably deal with them all at once)
and PoS bridges.

the next two features they have announced wanting to release are moon mining arrays, and player made gates. which line up perfectly with the features left to be replaced. so while I don't have any sources directly stating that the replacement is the primary purpose between the gates, it seems pretty obvious that at least in the short term that will be their primary usage.

If and when they open up more areas of space, then yeah the player made gates will likely be the primary method of accessing that. but that doesn't seem to be their priority right now. so i'm not holding my breath on a soontm feature.

Will definitely be interesting to see how this all develops. If player built stargates do end up as just a replacement for jump bridges, that will be a huge disappointment.

I wouldn't hold your breath on destructible gates. CCP completely misrepresented what citadels would be, they are probably doing the same on player built stargates. And they have a history of lackluster delivery and even non delivery when it comes to big features. A history of half implemented features with no iteration. Abandoned projects. It actually seems that the only things they have very much success on (though not without some flops as well) are the side projects that devs do because they think it'd be cool. So... yeah. Best to just assume it's not going to happen, and then when something underwhelming happens, you won't be too disappointed.
