I'm sure this has already been talked about millions of times......but for the love of god, the linux community would love more games to have native linux support.

I'm not TOO technically minded regarding programming or anything like that, but i am interested in ditching Windows for good. The only thing stopping me is Eve's performance in linux.

With a rock solid 60FPS in Windows and the 45-60FPS in Linux i can't even think about going full Linux with Eve, it's just not viable for me.

Is there a petition or something that we can all sign to ask for it? :P

It has indeed been discussed a million times. Official linux support while possible (like with OSX) wouldn't magically make the game run any faster, and making the game run faster is not a thing they can just do. A petition will not change that, I'm afraid.

Eve is a fairly old Direct X based game, and there simply is no DirectX on non-windows platforms. If you have an AMD card, you can get native DirectX 9 support from the open source drivers, but it's flaky at best. I don't see CCP switching to OpenGL or Vulkan anytime soon, and really, Vulkan is also still fairly wonky on linux anyway.

However, 45FPS on linux sounds pretty awful to me. I get over 200 if I set it to interval immediate. Do you use wine staging? If not, try installing wine with the staging patches and enable "CSMT" in winecfg. It can make quite a big difference on many systems.

It would be nice if we could get a CCP built version of wine with the staging patches for Nine and CSMT through the launcher, actually.

Keep in mind we are not supported, so why would they do a native version if we arent......

Im happy with having a native launcher, which is so far working great for me. Sure, there are hiccups here and there, but so far they havent been that seriously bad yet. I wish we could submit bug reports about the behaviour in linux, but we arent supported, so Im just happy that we can still play.P

Ubuntu Mate 16.04.2 64bit // Amd A8-5600K with RX460 4GB // 6GB DDR3 // Sandisk 120GB SSD Plus // Wine Stable 2.01 // Native Linux Launcher // TS3 working // Happy to be back in Ubuntu :)

Unless CCP were to switch to a OpenGL/Vulkan graphics API there is literally no point.
