I just took up an offer of 1 month sub for 3$. Will my character just go back to alpha status if the subscription runs out? Or will it be restricted from access? Unfortunately I didn't think about this before buying it, or even think about just getting plex in game to pay for it. Kinda want to facepalm.

You'll go back to Alpha status. You'll keep your ships and stuff, just won't be able to undock with ships that are higher than the Alpha limitations. And you'll keep your skills, but any skills past the Alpha limits won't give you their benefits.

You should look at the various offers for long term subscription, if you like the game. Plex is the most expensive option, at $20. Subscription is normally $15, but if you pre-pay for 6 or 12 months it's reduced to $11 per month or so.

It's altogether not bad, considering that even if you can't play that much, your skills in the queue still train up.

All well said, but "your skills in the queue still train up" . . . Omegas have an unlimited amount of skills that can be put into their queue. Alphas can only queue skills that start in a 24 hour window, so if you don't log on often you could lapse in some training.
