I am a little confused about the skill "Mining Drone Specialization".

Why does this skill not affect Tech II Mining Drones? Also, why is this skill not required for T2 mining drones?
Typically, the specialization skill affects the T2 item, not the faction items. But it's the other way around for mining drones right now.

It will be. CCP are giving people a chance to train it before making it mandatory. People who had T2 mining drones before the expansion might have gotten upset if they stopped working when the expansion arrived!

Seeing any one who could use T2 drones previously could have trained specialization to 1 in about 14 minutes...

Yeah and all the people in Null would complain because they cant get skill books or some thing like that. Haters gonna hate one way or the other I fear.

Yeah, it's a pretty questionable decision... because anyone who has Mining Drone Operation 5 right now is more likely to be upset that Mining Drone Specialization is not giving their Mining Drone IIs any extra "ooomph" for now, rather than be upset that they had to buy, inject, and train it to L1 to use the drones in the first place (had CCP gone that path instead).

All 3 of my mains have Mining Drone Operation 4 for now, so it doesn't affect me (yet), but I'm in no rush to train L5 chiefly because Mining Drone Specialization won't do anything for me (yet). Have it injected and at L0 for now on all 3.

Working on ice bots now anyway due to wanting to make my own command burst charges and needing ice, ice baby for that.

CCP has always said that "if you could fly it before, you can fly it after".

This gives everyone a couple weeks to by the book and train it. As zero people get hurt doing it this way there is no downside.

Except fighters. For some reason that didn't apply to fighters.

This seems like a better-planned transition.

If it's a couple weeks of transitioning they were after post-EVE Ascension... then the December update should have flipped the switch. Since I don't believe it did, I guess we'll see if the January update does so.
