If the letter is not polite, or if the don't refund and one complains, then the whole incident might appear in Crime and Punishment

I did mail the seller, asking if he might see it in his heart to send me 1B back of the 2.4B so i can try to trade my way back on top. Was hoping since it is literally all my trade capital he might take pity. As yet he has made no reply though, and i don't hold it against him What?

Thanks for the advice.

I think he actually didn't get that 2 bil isk. He's just the seller offering the lowest price, not the seller selling it at 2.4B. If you put a buy order with a price higher than the lowest sell order available, the boxer (NPC) just activate that lowest sell order and keep the extra isk himself.

Nope, that's not how it works.

Lets say you buy an item for 1m ISK on the market and I have the best sell order sitting at 1,000 ISK. In this case I get the 1m ISK and you get the item.

Lets say you sell an item for 1,000 ISK on the market and I have the best buy order sitting at 1m ISK. In this case I get the item for 1,000 ISK plus I get a refund for my escrow for 999,000 ISK.

Look at it like this: My buy order means I'm looking to buy that item and I'm willing to pay up to 1m ISK for it. With your sell order at 1k ISK you say "it's ok, you can have my stuff for just 1k". (And yes, that's a bit weird with regard to most peoples RL behavior.)
