I would love to be able to grow to twice my height on command like one of those faeries from a folk tale. High shelves: reachable! Stature: imposing! Ability to see what's going on while standing in a crowd: acquired!

... and then shrink back down to my normal size so I still fit easily in small vehicles and my feet don't stick off the end of the bed.

I hope to roam the Wildlands with the great caravans of the Thukker some day, however I fear I have little to offer in exchange for the knowledge I'd be sure to gain.

How close is your present self to the self you wish to be?

I like my present self. You know, I could do away with a bad habit or two, and there's a thing or three I want to forget, or conversely, experience -- but increasingly, I'm starting to think it's time for me to go out and change the world, instead of just bending myself to it.

Do you enjoy this sort of radical, public honesty, or is this a confessional of some sort?

... well ... a little close, maybe? There are things about myself that I don't like very much, but a lot of those aren't things I could change and still be "myself," you know?

The main difference is just-- there's a trick of perspective I want to learn. I want to be able to sense the flow of things without thought, to move with the world not as a fish in the river, but as the water itself.

I want to be wise, instead of just clever.

What is your oldest memory?

Edit (darn it, Jev!):

I actually do enjoy this. Answering is purely voluntary, so awkward questions can just be waited out, and we're getting to see little snippets of people's real selves. And it's not like I've ever actually been very shy about doing such things myself; some of the first work I did on the IGS was a public journal.

That depends upon your ability... but even great leaders serve, they do not rule.

My grandmother told me about henkjin, corpses brought back to life by cold-hearted sorcerers to drag people away into the winter night. One of the details was that their lips would be stitched shut, so as to not give themselves away, or irritate their masters, with their constant tormented moaning.

Then I read the Arataka Consortium's report on the Drifter they autopsied, and, well.

What's the most pleasant surprise you've ever had? I need a palate cleanser.

Brr. On several levels.

Probably, finding out I knew how to dance! It was probably the first (maybe the only?) unambiguously nice thing to crop up out of my old history. The rest's mostly been either bittersweet or disturbing.

Shark fin soup. I honestly do not understand the appeal. But with all the hype I would give it just one more chance. I have been putting it off though for fear of wasting another meal on something I'm fairly certain I'll fail to enjoy again.

Are you pleasantly surprised by how enjoyable this thread has turned out to be despite the grumpy naysayers who tried to shut it down because it didn't play to their edgy edginess of edge?

Yes.

Do you ever worry, that the capsule is in fact an elaborate practical joke by the Jovians, and that nothing you do whilst in the capsule is actually real ?

I mean, take off from a particular station, do something in space, then return to the same station. What actual evidence do you have, that anything you did while in space, actually happened ?

Absence of substantive discussion does not a threadnaught make.

(I mean that as a "yes".)

Who's your pick for Mind Clash champ YC119?

EDIT: I previewed and there was nothing above me. Not fixing it now. What?

Eh ... maybe they just hadn't considered that just because no one has to answer a question doesn't mean you can't make it a good one, my lord. On which note: not actually surprised, more just glad I wasn't wrong.

(... really miserable bits notwithstanding.)

Anyhow-- what's the least-respectable thing you've done to try to earn respect?

Edit: oh, dear.

Not really? There tends to be some kind of evidence of my doings if I bother to go look (modules and salvage scavenged, for example-- some of it really worrying; Drifter element storage is a no-go area for everyone who works for me), and sometimes people I did stuff with, or to, who often have things to say about it if asked.

Helped to kidnap someone. Had I known from my naivete back then that he would end up killed, I wouldn't have done it, because he did not deserve it.
