Does anyone offer a "Professional" Character Sculpting Service?

Send me a well-lighted pic of you looking directly at the camera, like in a passport photo, or in a pose you prefer, and Ill see what I can do.

If you like the result, we can work something out.

I was going to offer the same thing.

oldconnections you are definitely looking for someone who has real sculpting skill and an eye for accurate detail in general. I'm not claiming to be such a person but I've had some success with character sculpting in EVE.

I asked for a character customization code in the past, but I didn't get a response. I suspect the character faces can be expressed as a set of variables for each region of the face.

I wanted to make a copy of a character's face perhaps a year ago and this was my result. It involved making the EVE client semi-transparent (using an AutoHotkey script) and placing a reference snapshot underneath.

Making the client transparent made it easier to check against the reference, but what made it really easy was the lighting being exactly the same (since the reference images were also from the in-game character creator).

more recently I copied the face of an EVE character on an out-of-game 3d model.

If a character's face shape settings could be shared, that would enable face sculpting as an in-game profession. A minor problem I can think of would be out-of-range values being entered, if this used the simplest implementation of displaying the facial shape settings and then allowing a player to input their own.

Anyway. To my disappointment not many players have much of an interest in avatar gameplay, and apparently I'm in the minority as someone who identifies with the character first and the space ships third or fourth.

well that is a neat idea, but personally I would not want my avatar to look like my RL self (Toobo looks better than I'll ever be, for example, lol). But I did make some avatars of RL people (like me and my friends or some celebrities) that look very similar to the RL model, for Sims 2. :p

Haha, I am not a supermodel myself. Lol But apart from the bags under the eyes, no growth of beard to speak of and not the smoothest skin in the world, I can tolerate my appearance.
There is a certain itch to imagine myself actually being an immortal capsuleer in the world that is EVE Online. Not to the extent of trying to escape the reality, but more so than possible with my main being a female, small, thin like a stick and in a formal dress. Which is the opposite of me in basicly everyway. So I ask myself if having the avatar look like me might help me to have a more immersive experience in this regard.

It depends very much on how you look IRL. If you look like one of the usual streotypical avatars of the major faction toons, then it would not be a big deal to make one that looks like you. If you look nothing like any avatar I've ever seen in EVE, erm, that may be difficult task for anyone.

I can describe myself as a tall, but otherwise average, caucasian male with short blonde hair. While I like the Minmatar Sebestior the most due to their background (sounds much like russians to me, which I think is cool), I do fear that I will have to settle for another race (I think my facial structure is too different), but I would leave this completely in the hands of the inclined person to help me out with this.

I don't know how we can do this, but if I see a pic of you, I wouldn't mind having a go at avatar creation for fun, and also for free. I don't think I would actually want to create a complete avatar & accept ISK for character transfers and such, but I could give you some tips on which faction/blood line to choose and roughly which settings to tweak to get 'close to' what you want, time permitting.

If I do think it is possible and if I do make an avatar that really look like you (probably only from a particular angle with specific lighting though, as usually is the case) and it is worth it for you to 'buy' such a toon, I could consider just accepting the 2 PLEX to transfer you the character without any ISK involved. I'm no personal friend of Chribba but I've used his 3rd party service before and if he's holding 2 PLEX for this I wouldn't worry for a second that I would be cheated in anyway.

So up to you, whether you want to send me your pic or not heh. I mean I'm not gonna troll you with your RL pic, I've never done so and I never will, but well, up to you whether you feel comfortable with that.

If you are interested, send me an eve mail & I'll send you my email address to which you can send the pic. If you don't want to send me your RL pic then name a celebrity who most resembles you and I'll see what I can do based on publically available pic of such a person, again, time permitting. :p

I thank you very much for your kind offer! I will write you an EVE mail Tuesday night and we can take further action from there, if that is okay with you. I would like to take a little time to take good pictures not with a potato and from the right angles and also I am not at home the next two days.
Also, I think it is fair to clear up right now, that I did not expect a quick turnaround, but I was too curious not to open the thread already, so I do not have the funds for the transfer just yet. Late December I guess.

Sorry, rudely and shamelessly shortened the reference due to remaining characters!

I am completely on your side with the avatar gameplay and identity. I would wish for EVE to be a real science-fiction simulator in space (I am even talking first person/VR, which ties in directly with my headscan idea). What I did not like though, is that they started with stations, obviously had to get a bad turnaround from the community from this and are now stuck with something nobody wanted. Walking on ships on the other hand would have been most awesome even for the "ships first" bunch - I hope.
Sharing faces would have to be exactly what you called it though. Everyone tries to look unique, so giving out the look of my character to another person, should be my very own decision and not someone else just copying it.

Thank you for showing so much interest. For now I would like to take Toboo up on her offer and see what comes from that. Maybe I will write you a mail at a later time.

Please forgive me. I will give Toobo some pictures for now and wait the results. Thank you for your offer and maybe I might come back to it.

hey oldconnections it's cool you take my offer positively but by no means it needs to be exclusive, as I do not intend to make any ISK off doing this anyway. Feel free to contact/work with other guys who made offers here in mean while. I don't mind if I work on your avatar and in mean while someone else makes a better avatar that you prefer. I will not ask for any ISK or anything like that. I don't know Salvos well so can't comment (except that he says his avatar looks like him IRL heh), but based on the post I think Rain knows what he's talking about & pretty into this avatar stuff too, so I think it would be in your benefit to talk to multiple people and see what results you get.

There are also other people I've seen around GD who are quite passionate about avatar play, and spend considerable time experimenting with different avatars. I think there are many who could help you here and I don't wan to 'delay' you from getting the avatar you want by letting only me work on it first. The more people can try at the same time the sooner you will get the result you want.

Just my two cents. ;)

Cheers Love! The cavalry's here!

Well, like Salvos, my avatar would get me recognized IRL, but it is not perfect. If you just happen to be lucky enough to fit the parameters of what can be done, you can make a really close approximation (My brother's toon looks like a photo of him, he is a graphic designer, though, so he is all about perfection in that regard). If you fall outside those parameters, well, then you are SOL. One of my best friends can't make a single character that would allow you to recognize that it was him. His face is just not even close to what EVE offers. I really would love to see a much more detailed character creation system, tbh.

Everyone, thank you for your kind feedback.
Since this week resulted in a new job opportunity for me though, I decided to put off returning to EVE until I settled down at my new workplace and yet to be found new quarters. Thus, since there was no need to hurry from the start for me, I will also contact some of you in a few months instead of right now, because I do not like to do things half-heartedly.
I wish everyone the best for the comming holidays and a happy 2017.
