So, I haven't played this game since sometime in 2008, and even then I think I only played a month. With the game being free to play now, I have reinstalled and started playing again. So far it's as pretty as I remember, but it feels a bit slow with an odd learning curve. I've gotten basic combat and the such figured out, but I want to be able to get somewhat in the area of my friends that got me back into this game. My question is this. How can I actually progress in this game?

Currently it feels that I'm stuck doing the same security missions non stop in my Kestral, and only being able to do 1-2 at a time is just kind of boring, when you consider that it's just going back and forth. I want to do something more. Maybe a bit more high risk with better payoff then ~100-200k isk per mission run. I want to upgrade my ship further, but if this is all the reward I can muster from doing quests, I can't see a reason to buy higher. I'm also stuck doing level 1 missions, which is kind of boring since I basically 1 hit everything with the setup in my ship currently. I know I may be doing everything wrong, but honestly the game kinda throws you back in without explaining a whole lot.

It's tough to say out what my current skills are, but all I can really say is that all of the ones available to me are around 2+ days to train each now. I wish I could view my skills like I could in the past, but I can't find a way to do that anymore when at work.

My real goal in this game right now is to find a way to make way more isk than I currently am, maybe hauling or something, but not sure how to get into that.

I know I'm kind of taking the lazy route and begging here, but can anyone give me some quick details how to achieve my goals to progress further?

Try exploration, it's probably better ISK than missions for a newbro

Doing what? PvP? Missions? Mining? Industy?

Depends on what goal you have.

Do it, just do it.

Exploration in EVE involves using scanning probes to locate Cosmic Signatures in space which may contain hackable containers with items inside, resources like gas clouds or ore, wormholes to distant star systems, or collections of NPCs which may drop rare items. As a profession, exploration can be profitable and engaging, and offers better rewards for players willing to travel in more dangerous space. It has a low skill barrier, and new players can start exploring almost from day 1.
This guide is intended to provide new players with all the information they need to get started in exploring in high-security space.

Try hitting f12 and doing the career missions. There are also a ton of videos in the tutorial tab. The career mission will give out a free ship and some probes to get you started.

Mission Isk is mainly made from selling stuff from the LP store. So you want to move on to the higher level missions asap. Lower level missions are best for improving your faction, since you can complete more missions for the time invested.

Some reading material.

Really, in eve, if you don't like the choices presented, you can make something new up. People are making new careers all the time. But for now, consider all forms of income as "kind of boring." EVE doesn't entertain you. There is a bit of variety in everything, but it all will become boring after you do the same thing half a dozen times. "Oh, it's Worlds Collide again"

My choice of pronouns is based on your avatar. Even if I know what is behind the avatar.

You can view your Skills out of game via Eve Gate.

Go to your character portait at the top of this page and click view profile, then click view Eve Gate profile on the left hand side of the next page. Then go to Character Sheet and you have tabs for both your current skills and your skill queue. Sadly you can't update your skill queue from there, but with a virtually unlimited skill queue nowadays, it isn't too much of an inconvenience.

Eve is a sandbox. We are the content. The developers don't provide content to entertain you, they provide tools you can use to entertain yourself.

If you want to explore talk to https://www.eve-scout.com/signal-cartel/ They will provide skill books, ships and mentoring.
If you want to blow stuff up talk to one of the new player friendly PVP organizations such as https://www.reddit.com/r/pandemichorde/comments/5dapy2/eve_goes_f2p_horde_alpha_clone_faq/

There is lots to do in Eve but players make it happen - not the developers.

If you want a shortcut to try somewhat tougher missions, train the Social and Connections skills. In particular, Connections II (available as an Alpha) will put you above +1.0 with your faction if you did their career agent missions, allowing you access to Level 2 missions for any corp within that faction, without having to so much as touch Level 1s first.

This is not a progression game. It is an open world PvP game. There is no "end game" and there is no inherent point to this game.

We just play in this game to have fun, and much like in a real sandbox you just do what ever you find fun to do in the sandbox.

10 years from now you could have 200 Million or more skill points and still be flying cheap T1 small and medium ships on a very regular basis. There is no game mechanic which requires you do go up in size or tech or expense. You can if you like but there is no need to do any of those things.

Hauling is not necessarily good isk. You can make decent isk hauling but you can also loose a bunch of isk hauling and you need to know the game a bit before you can understand where the profits are and where the dangers lie.

One of the first questions that we ask new players when they come in here looking for isk is what do they want the isk for? The isk should not be a goal unless you just like making isk and then if that is the case then do whatever is fun to make isk. The real question that you need to be asking yourself is what do you enjoy doing. If you don't know the answer to that then that's totally fine just try a bunch of stuff until you find out what you like.

For example if you told me that you enjoyed PvP but did not feel you could afford the ship looses at your current income, we could tell you that there are several new player friendly null sec corps that will give you free ships and provide fleets and help getting started. If you insure the free ships you can make isk every time that you get blown up. With a set up like that you don't really need isk coming in.

\Aside from "how can I make more isk" you really haven't told us your goals or even much about your typical likes and dislikes.

To get anywhere in this game you will wind up doing some reading and watching some videos and then coming in game and trying stuff out only to maybe go back and read some more etc... This game is very deep and as a result it tends to attract people who like figuring stuff out.

We can definately give some advice to get you pointed in the right direction but a little more info might be helpful.

I understand that you think level 1 missions are boring and repetitive. Again this game is an open world PvP game at it's core. There is PvE but it is mostly there as a means to earn some isk. It's not really engaging content. I've heard of people making as much as 200 Million isk per hour running level 4 missions. You might say "that's really good isk I like the sound of that." but if you don't like running missions what's the point.

TL;dr
Try a bunch of stuff and when you figure out what you enjoy doing come back here and ask us how to make isk doing that.
