So trying to scan for cosmic signatures. Not a glue so appear to have lost my probes.Roll

How do you get more? Is buying them the only way?

You could also build your own with the appropriate blueprint - but yup, buying more from the Market is the usual way to get more, like with many things in EVE :)

For future reference - your probes will time out after a little bit more than an hour in space, so recall and relaunch them before this happens if you're not done scanning yet. They'll automatically recall themselves to your cargohold whenever you dock, change systems, or (I believe) manually log off, so check to make sure they're not just hiding there as well. If you get disconnected with probes out, click the "Reconnect to Lost Probes" button in your Probe Scanner.

Thanks very much for that.Smile

I've been looking at you tube vids on scanning technique. Not much in game hand holding so can be frustrating trying to learn new things. Devil in the detail.

Never bought anything in the market yet either. Hmmm best utube that too. Lol.

You sure you lost them?

When you click a formation in the Probing window it launches the probes into space, but they're supposed to return to your ship automatically if you dock or jump to the next system.

However, you have to right-click your launcher (in space) and "reload" to put the probes back in it so they're ready to be used again.

Cause the probes return to your ship's cargo hold, but they don't load themselves into the launcher, so you have to do it.

It sounds like you might get some mileage out of The Alpha's Guide to the Galaxy, particularly the market and scanning sections. Feel free to give those a skim if you prefer a more text-based guide to youtube videos; if you prefer video, there's a good numbers of tutorial vids in-game, if you press F12 and select the "Tutorial Videos" tab. They're at least slightly less likely to be outdated that way! :)
