Rookie channel has exploded, send help!

For obvious reasons Rookie channel is busy as hell and there haven't really been more people helping in there. We need more folks to help out, be they ISD or (gasp) CCP putting in extra effort or just more vets/players with a clue. The more knowledgable folks we have to guide the newbs, the better the chance that said newbies won't quit because they chose to mine, give up due to a lack of help or are given terrible and mistaken info (which happens a lot).

There's several ways to join rookie channel, 2 obvious (ISD and new account) and one less obvious way. If you're an older player who's willing to help out but can't be bothered to make an alt account then you too can learn the art of space magic which grants entrance. To learn about this space magic just mail me, or ccp could just hire more ISD (and I do mean hire).

You can join Rookie Help by searching for it under "Help" in the "open channel window". You don't need to make a new / alt account to access it.

There's got to be a better way than dumping >4,000 (seriously as of 12:11) accounts into one chat window.

Maybe the old browser code could be re-purposed to allow EVE New Citizens Q&A as the in-game help feature?

At least you wouldn't get a solid wall of text scrolling by at a thousand miles-per-hour... What?

I grab people into private chat and explain stuff but that does mean I can't answer questions from other newbies. Which is why we need more people :)

Well, here's my two cents.

I'm happy to help new players, but I can't handle being in that hamster wheel for more than 10 min before my eyes go blurry Ugh

Private chat is a good idea.

Well I'm kinda used to rookie which helps, been in rookie for over a decade now, but right now it's silly.

Well rookie help channels are really helping but I have to agree 4000 doesn't look good.

I was thinking for some kind of visual filter but I'm not sure on that one...either that or create other rookie channels

a channel with 4k people talking and asking questions is nearly impossible to help anyone or keep track of it

CCP hasn't learned how to create more rookie channels, like rookie 1, rookie 2, etc for like 1000 people each ay most like every other game out there does

6K and rising. We're coping now that we have more ppl. A few players, some ISD and even a GM or two are chiming in.

Rookie help is simply too busy and spammy that it is difficult to help the rookies. 4k+ is absurd. It doesn't help when I have to scroll backwards to read something and the box keeps jumping around.

I suggest splitting rookie chat by Faction when it gets over 1000 and by race if faction gets over 1000. Then recombining the chat groups when the divided channels get too sparse.

My choice of pronouns is based on your avatar. Even if I know what is behind the avatar.

But then you'd also have to split up the people helping, and the chance that it'll be an even distribution of helpers vs newbies is quite low.

How about limitations like 1 message per minute? This channel is not for chatter. Might get answered slowly, but you'll be able to see most of the messages, and it will stop some people from spamming like 2 words per message.

Then the unofficial helpers, so most of the ones doing the helping, can't chat either.

That's not what is happening, unless you consider answering some basic questions about EvE to be hand holding. There is plenty they will have to learn on their own still. Most. There are just a lot of new players right now.
