Suspect Flags.....Can I shoot them?

Hello,

New alpha player here having a blast atm with a quick question I cant seem to find the answer to. I might just be overthinking this or overlooking it.

I've seen quite a few players that are Suspect flagged, yellow, and even some flagged red. What's the difference here? Am I free to attack the yellow suspect tags as well as the flashy red ones? If I do so will I also be flagged?

Just need a little clarification here.

Thanks!

If they have a suspect flag, they either looted something that isn't theirs or activated a support module on a ship involved in a fight they were not allowed to engage in. You *may* attack those players without Intervention from CONCORD or Faction Police, but once you do, they may return fire. You will not get a global flag yourself, but you will get a teal "Limited Engagement Timer". As long as this timer is active, they can legally attack you and vice versa. It's not uncommon to see this mechanic being used as bait.

A red flag can mean a couple of things:

- They have negative security status below -5, are legally attackable everywhere and get chased by the Faction Police. You may engage them, but again they will be allowed to shoot back. However, if you can catch them and hold them in place long enough for the cavalry to arrive, you often have a good chance, because FacPo will turn them into mincemeat. However, there may be exceptions, since unlike CONCORD the FacPo can be tanked and killed.

- They have a Global Criminal Timer, because they illegally engaged someone. Those typically die a few seconds later to CONCORD, but you may engage them and try to whore on the killmail.

- If they have a white star on a red background, they are war enemies. If you don't know your corp declared a war against anyone, it's likely they declared war on you, and *want* to fight you. Be careful with those! Of course you wouldn't see those in an NPC corp, since NPC corps are immune to war.

Awesome, thanks for the info. This makes sense now.

My most recent spotting of this was a person who was flashing yellow beside a jump gate in a Starter ship, the same one I started in. But when I pressed show info on the pilot he had been in game for a long while. Based on what you're telling me that was most likely bait and I was right not to attack them and just fly away.

Thanks again, this will come in handy.

Explanation of flags and timers.
Kill Rights

Setting up your Overview
Unfuck your Overview - set it up properly so you can react in combat

Yellow suspects can be attacked by anyone, but will gain the right to shoot you back once you attack them. Often, people steal loot from others to gain this flag on purpose, to bait a fight. The suspect flag and the limited engagement flag that allows them to shoot you back are not reset if they run away, dock at a station, equip a better ship, and come back to "defend themselves" against you.

So, make sure you can warp-disrupt or warp-scram the suspect so he doesn't run away, and make sure you can actually kill him (your ship is better than his), before you start shooting.

Red criminals or pirates can also be attacked by anyone, and in high-sec are probably being hunted by Concord at that very moment. Except, Concord doesn't shoot pods, so if you see the criminal in a pod, he's just trying to travel through to get to another ship. A pod is relatively easy to kill, but difficult to catch, because it can align and warp away instantly. You definitely need to be on the ball with warp disruption in order to catch the pod.

Red war enemies appear red only to you, because they've declared war to your corporation and are thus red (enemy). Feel free to shoot them and expect them to shoot you on sight. Concord won't interfere (that's the point of a war declaration). Same rules apply for PVP: you need to have a Warp Disruptor or Warp Scrambler or the enemy will just warp away and escape your wrath. Also, keep in mind that war enemies are rarely alone, expect more enemies to show up to help their friend.

Thanks for the links, adding them to my list. Thanks especially for the overview ones, already annoyed by it and was planning on looking up how I could mess with it to make it not crap and more like some videos I've seen.

You can join the channel "barkkor" ingame and click the link in the channel motd to load a pretty decent overview preset. The channel is german, but the overview is not, and you should have no trouble finding the link to click. Should you find your overview settings to be borked at any point, you can just reset them in the Misc tab of your overview settings.

You are supposed to be able to use your safety settings so that you don't have to worry about Concord. Green won't let you get into trouble. Yellow lets you get naughty but stops you short of anything that would get you Concordokken. Red is anything goes, shot at your own risk.
