hi, ive been casually strolling by low sec systems and all i see are 10-20 fleet gate camps, just wondering if small gangs (1-3 people) are dead and 80% of fights are blobs?

You just need to learn to avoid gate camps.

But no, solo/small gang PvP is alive and well in lowsec.

Small gang and solo are very much alive and well.

If you spend some time in an area, you'll quickly learn who the local blobbers are vs who will give you a more enjoyable fight.

Just don't go to the obvious and go-to places for solo PVP, that is where the real carebears hang in groups waiting for said soloers.
