Instead of complaining about the PS3 exclusivity, which by this time is like beating a dead horse, i have another concern... CCP has mentioned that this Beta will be ongoing and simply transition into the regular game, well if that's the case and we can assume that the training mechanics for DUST will be the same as in EVE then wont people in the DUST Beta get an unfair advantage as they will have the oppourtunity to get up to a few million skill points in the 6 months before the game "officially" comes out this summer?

Now this i like because you have a genuinly good question and concern.

I'd imagine they will just have a stat/skill reset of the DUST player statistic servers once the game is officially ''out'' but it would be nice to know way ahead of time, just in case this isn't the way it will work, so we can plan ahead.

i have no issue with CCP expanding out and trying to reach new markets insofar as it doesn't Fck with the existing users game experience who have forked over good cash month after month to support EVE.

As far as Dust is concerned though it appears many of you are hopeless optimists. Dust will fail. I would really need to see proof of this so called "buzz" in PS3 forums. Cause from the people i know, who are all busy playing MW and BF and Halo....."nobody" knows wtf Dust even is. There's just no pedigree here with console players. A ps3 player looking at this game is basically gonna say "so i can blown out of natural space in transit to a planet?".....and that player doesn't even know the half of it. These merc transports are gonna have to have concord escorts cause when this thing drops every PC playing capsuleer in the game is gonna come for them. I know i'm not going to do one ounce of PI anymore if i have to deal with Dust playing ps3 players to defend my installations. No way. If this was on the pc, maybe. PC players are different and we all know that.

Hopefully to make up for this woeful lack of insight....we capsuleers will soon be able to step outside our captains quarters and start some FPS gunplay in stations. Or call up escorts to our quarters....i'll take either one. Big smile

Actually it was previously stated that CCP wants to attract not Eve players, it's called branching out. Eve players just have to opportunity to see what the inferior little people that play PS3 do.

I would really need to see proof of your claims that Dust mercs can be simply blown up by capsuleers on a whim - as far as I know CCP hasn't confirmed the details of clones, transports, supply lines, logistics, etc in terms of how corporations and Alliances support their ground troop counterparts.

If what you say is more than pure speculation, please link to your sources. As of right now, we don't even know how sovereignty will be changed to integrate Dust battles - We've seen some sample guns, sample outfits, sample vehicles, some screenshots, but the rest of how exactly Dust integrates with EvE simply hasn't been spoken about by the developers yet.

As far as danger goes for console players, CCP has been clear that there will be phased zoning for the gameplay, with highsec, lowsec, and nullsec involving different levels of risk and reward. So no, a console player isn't going to just log on and be nuked by Eve players with no way to defend themselves.

And yes, if someone is content to play Modern Warfare over and over again, they're probably going to hate Dust 514. That's fine. Dust 514 isn't for those addicted to repetitive deathmatches. Its for all of us who are bored with crap like that. The playerbase CCP will build for Dust simply doesnt exist yet. They will once word gets out.

As I've said before - Dust isn't looking to conquer those games in a sales competition. It doesn't need to. It can start slow, and let word of mouth buzz draw more players in. The players that stick around will be a different, much more hardcore and strategic breed of shooter player much unlike the ones that are gobbling up the latest version of Halo.

Really though, your statement at the end just belies your bias that is all too common in threads like this - you simply think you're better than everyone else because you play on a PC instead of a console. Its prejudice, without any kind of basis in truth. There are just as intelligent and mature a crowd that plays on consoles as PC's, they just haven't had an experience like Dust yet to sink their teeth into.

The stereotypical "Kiddie gamer" you wrongfully assume makes up the entirety of the console gamer crowd out there will run screaming the first time they realize they don't automatically respawn as many times as they want in a match without penalty, and thankfully so. Dust 514 will purge the weak.

The apparent air of superiority that capsuleers around here have adopted, is obviously not taking into account the vids released. Planetary batteries taking out a Moros should have given them some pause in their bravado. But, obviously they aren't as sophisticated or well informed as they think. The Dusties are going to have some tricks up their sleeves for Capsuleers who think they are going to roll into a system and "dust" off planetary surfaces with impunity.Blink

Really looking forward to this game. Maybe it will be an MMO with REAL strategic combat, as yet I have found none..

PC's rule many games by virtue of their utter simplicity of interface, not because the operator is "better"..

It's no use going back to yesterday, because I was a different person then, and it's a poor sort of memory that only works backward.

...is absolutely shameful and reflects poorly on the EvE community. Grow up everyone. Enough of the "stupid console gamers" crap. That argument is old, demonstrates poor sportsmanship, lack of consideration and respect, and doesn't hold any validity at the end of the day.

If you dont like Dust, great, don't play it. But take the "PC gamers are teh best" attitude somewhere else. You guys give the EvE community a bad name.

Actually, I think it's only fair that the people who help do the testing get to retain their skillpoints. Apparently, the Aur in PSN Store costs real money, if the 15% free or whatever is to be taken into account, so for those players that make real purchases of that; then I must believe that they will be reimbursed the value in Aur when it goes live out of beta, or retain everything on their characters, and just keep going.

Whatever the case, most Devs make you start from scratch on a new account when you drop Beta, and work your way back up. They also expect massive input, bug reporting, game development advice, and a plethora of other things, while making their beta testers sit under an NDA. All for no benefit, unless you count the anonymity of actually telling the Devs how to develop their game without getting credit for it.

One recent beta was so bad I looked at it, and went "no thanks; more effort than I'm willing to put in." And so, some months later, and game just within a month of release; I am not surprised to see 10 companies spamming my associated email with "Gold" sales. And people still don't believe RMT beta test, and tell the Devs where to nerf the drops, and where to leave them...

Multiple spams, from 2-3 RMT competitors less than 10 days after the game went Live. Why is that? How is that? As far as I know, everybody started fresh-with nothing and new characters/accounts when it went live.

Funny thing is, I saw the direction the game was going, (Thanks to player and tester advice on the forums), half way through development and later, and decided I was no longer interested in playing, or even trying it out. So much for watching it for 4 years.

I've never seen RMT on a console, but I'm sure hoping the same doesn't occur here.

Side note: Didn't EVE roll right from Beta into full game in the same fashion? I'm assuming it did, as every indication I've seen points that way. The way I've heard "we were in beta" players talk anyhow.

To reiterate: I'm all for SP carrying through to live. You shouldn't need to do more than buy the game, to keep going where you left off. Of course, if something goes drastically wrong, and we end up with OP abilities that are nerfed before the end of Beta; I'd like to see them removed. No need for reimbursement.

edit: I say we, but I'm really just hoping I get in. No news yet.
Invest the time; get your rewards. ..and I don't mean games designed for exploitation be RMT.

I just say that because it bugs me. See it too much, and it ruins the game. Any game.

have ps3 but probably won't be bothered playing dust on it, never enjoyed fps on console, but had a thought, imagine dust becomes huge, and they get an average of 2 million or more players online at any one time, are there enough planets held by players to accomadate them kind of numbers ?

what if dust outgrows the curent eve universe ? shall they increase the amount of systems ?

No. All the Beta Characters were wiped and there were no names reserved. You could however train all three alts at the same time during the Beta. In the Beta you could actually transport ISK in your Cargo hold which resulted in duping exploits and although you retained skill points from say phases Medusa -> Gemini all the stacks of Cash I horded in my cargohold were removed.

So is this just for PS3? or will it ever be released for the 360? and don't hate PC players, to me using a keyboard and mouse in shooters is impractical and rather stupid, but thats just my opinion, and you are entitled to yours. One other thing: Would i be able to gift this possible code to a friend that does have a PS3? or is there gonna be a big herp derp about it?

Ok, now for concerns about DUST. What if it doesnt catch on? i mean PI really isn't contested that much, and it usually takes a backseat in PVP, so why would we contract DUST players isk just to go fail at taking a planet that we don't really want or need? To merge the games properly, the planetary aspect of EVE would need to be more significant, e.g being able to build surface to orbit rail-batteries (or lasers or missile systems ofc). As they are, i worry that the DUST players won't have enough to do, unless the contracted fights for EVE players are just one game mode, and there being a standard shooter mode where the matches do have significant importance (in a planetary conquest or something) but actually does not affect EVE itself.

I'm just spitballing with these ideas and possibilities, but its just something that i feel should be considered. Oh and CCP, releasing DUST onto the other platforms (Xbox and the PC) could greatly enhance your fanbase and potential profit margins if the launch and implementations are successful.

FINALLY someone who shares my opinion on this! I mean after about a day or so of the new game buzz, games like call of duty and battlefield (but not as uch BF3 cus of there being a decent amount of tactics and complementing elements) just lose their touch to me, i like to be defending some imposing bastion with the knowledge that if my team fails, we get to watch it blow up or some shizz like that! And also with the PC gamer thing, yeah, console gamers are prejudiced too much into being shown as children that have no measure of intelligence. It's got to stop, because in my prejudiced opinion (not my real opinion) PC shooter gamers are just abnoxious assholes that always believe to be better than everyone else just because their way overpriced gaming laptop makes them better and beating the living shizzle out of others.

Nice to see someone hypothesizing about a GOOD outcome from Dust instead of the typical "fail" predictions.

I can hardly see this as a bad thing - if 2 million people got hooked on Dust no doubt a good portion would pick up EvE as well, benefiting our community greatly. I see nothing wrong with adding planets and expanding the EvE universe!

Maybe an endless supply of Dust mercs will give capsuleers the power they need to push into Jove space :) (I'm not holding my breath though....)

Yes, its just for PS3 - Microsoft would not allow CCP to run Dust on their own server, and would have required ALL downloads be charged a fee, killing their philosophy of free expansions. Too many issues would have hampered the vision CCP wants to implement between Dust and EvE, so its PS3 exlcusive for now. There is talk about the PS3 agreement only being for a year, so it MAY go to PC, we'll just have to see. I'm curious about the year-long exclsusive deal, anyone have a link to confirm this?

As for the PI / Dust / Eve interaction - obviously there is some work to be done there, I imagine CCP has a lot of that worked out (if we're still on track for Spring release) but just hasn't dev-blogged about it yet. I think this is the gray area that deserves some clarification "soon TM". Everything that CCP has said so far points at the link being far more than just PI - the whole nullsec soveriegnty system will be tied to Dust. Alliances w\ill need to seize territorial control bunkers on planets, not just bust them in space like they do now, if they want to maintain hold over a region. The devil is in the details of course, I have no idea whether we'll see the soveriegnty overhaul before or concurrent with Dust 514's release.

And no, not everything in Dust will be 100% Eve-dependent, they've mentioned in previous articles that there will be a tiered highsec, lowsec, nullsec system just like EvE - my guess is that Highsec is where you can practice against the computer, and farm starter gear and isk by doing missions, lowsec will be PvP but more casual, perhaps a quick matchmaking-lobby type deal, or something to do with Faction Warfare (thats probably wishful thinking on my part), whereas null will be the hardcore player-dependent contracts and troop movements. Again, this is what I've pieced together from snippets of press releases here and there, the details haven't been fully outlined.
