A friend of mine was thinking joining eve as he keeps hearing faction warfare from watching You tube, Twitch etc and open an account to do it and asked me which is the best faction to be in. (Caldari, Gallente, Amarr, Minmatar)

I'm not into FW so thought i would ask in here before he opens his account tomorrow when he finishes work.

I'm mainly an industrialist in my main profile and have a second for null sec so don't know much about the faction side or which side to choose from

Thanks for your views in advance

Pew - pew = gallente caldari war zone, gallente more pew, caldari more farm but difference is not that big.
Farm LP = minmatar
Rage quit EVE after notorios stumbling upon boosted, blinged, risk-awerse boolies, called themself 'pirates' = amarr

I flew for Gallente FW for a while and have even engaged Mr. Duffo there on a few occasions. (Hi Mr. Duffo! o7)

Each of them have pros and cons but the two biggest is Caldari and Gallente, so I would fly for one of those two.

The Amarr really don't have much sway and in the Gallente FW, the Minmatar FW pilots were considered awoxers (they killed their own and killed allies as well).

If the Minnie FW pilot didn't leave my site, I shot at them after giving a verbal warning.

The real answer is that there are two wars: Minmatar vs. Amarr and Gallente vs. Caldari.

There are real differences between the two wars, but once you choose the war, there's not much difference between sides. The Minmatar vs. Amarr war has essentially simmered down into a cold war. The warzone is still a no-man's zone, but if you go in there looking to conquer military objectives, you'll be fighting opportunist pirates more often than you're fighting opposing forces. The Gallente vs. Caldari war is still active (though much less so than in the past), and you're more likely to be engaged in actual military action.

In the greater scheme of things, there's not much difference between any of the four options. Both offer plenty of opportunity for PVP, PVE, and Loyalty Point earning. I'd just say go with whichever race speaks to you most on a flavour level since, while roleplaying isn't exactly rampant, each militia does draw on the story features of its side and its opponents for propaganda, battle chants, etc.

Aivonen (gallente millitia graveyard) stats = 1335 killed today, over 1500 yesterday.
Huola (top system in amarr food chain) = 200 killed

So you can see where all the action is.

I've flown for the Gallente and Minmatar militias. The biggest differences I noticed were things like:
- Background nebulas
- What the stargates looked like.
- Station interiors.

It depends on what you are looking for.

As others have said, the Caldari-Gallente war is consistently 'hotter' than the Amarr-Minmatar war, and that is very clearly where much of the action is. That said, I've had no problem finding fights in Amarr FW space, and blobs/camps are relatively rare, even at peak times, because you need a higher population density to make that approach worthwhile. So for solo pilots, Amarr or Minmatar FW makes a certain kind of sense.

Of course, you also need to think about what you are going to fly. Clearly, if you love Slicers, then being able to pick them up cheap from the LP store is going to help you focus on the fighting rather than grinding LP/ISK. Conversely, if you love missile ships, then being able to pick up Caldari Navy faction ammo and cost is going to be very appealing.

And while I suspect that Hesod Adee's comment was not entirely serious, the backdrop in which you are fighting makes a difference to some people. I find the Gallente love affair with all things swamp green quite distasteful, while I enjoy the blacks and golds of Amarr space. I think Minmatar stations are quite ugly, whereas I find Amarr stations quite elegant.

If you are going to spend hours looking at something, you might as well chose something that you enjoy.

If you like reading about low sec piracy or wormhole pvp, you might enjoy my blog.
