Pink Ribbon SKINS

Am I the only one that finds this kind of... dissatisfying?

Pink Ribbon Campaigns are famous now for their unscrupulous, selfish and capitalist attitudes. They're renowned for their being in it for money, only money and to make that money off of the back of charity that humans are inherently predisposed to assist; something marketed as helping a problem specifically faced by women that is drastically played up to keep people buying Pink products out of sympathy and an evolutionary desire to preserve and protect women. Meanwhile, men's health issues suffer.

Our world is full of dire and awful problems. Malaria for example is still one of the planets largest killers each year and can be stopped with the purchase of a net that costs a mere 10$. Homelessness is more prevalent than it has been in a very, very long time in the wake of severe economic troubles, affecting not just men but also women and children who need food and shelter. Prostate cancer research is underfunded like all men's health issues and compared to the Cancer Awareness for profit industry that is Pink Ribbon, is in far more drastic need of a cash injection.

But lets say "What about the mens!" isn't a convincing argument to you. You just want to help women because this one time a man working in a McDonald's got your order wrong and was a total **** about it...

Giving to a Pink Ribbon campaign is not and never will be the best way to do that, because the only person you're helping is a glorified share holder 99% of the time. Your charitable donation is being made void, turned into a cool profit.

So, how about a Charitable Group actually doing something, like buying and distributing food to the homeless, or educating the developing world's dispossessed and vulnerable to be safer from diseases that will likely kill at least one of their children, and providing nets and test kits to further help them?

You're free to choose the charity you want to give to, as CCP is free to choose the charity it endorse.

If you look closely all big charities looks like big scam were only a small amount of donation are actually given away to the people that need it, will it be scientist or people in need.

So now got out there, and give your money directly to the people that need it.

This campaign is contributing to a reputable charity organization in Iceland that has a history of doing good work. Yes there are many other causes of which we should all be aware. However, this does not take away from this sponsorship. In point of fact it is a little insulting for someone to be as vehement as you are being without knowing for a fact that the Icelandic Organization is fraudulent. It is not, and will receive my full support.

I plan to buy the full pack of skins with Aurum and may buy a second pack for distribution as I see fit within the game.

Good job CCP, I applaud this effort.

100% of the proceeds from the sale of these SKINs in the New Eden Store will be converted from Aurum to real world cash, and will be donated to Bleika Slaufan

Does that mean that 100% of the money I give goes to the charity ? (My english not good enought)

I'm not ingame right now, do we have a price listing of those skin in aurum ?

It all comes down to the answer to a simple question: Do the pink ribbon campaigns help the cause of breast cancer, or not? If yes, then donating to them is worthwhile. If no, then don't donate. If you think they do some good, but could do much more if their methods were more scrupulous, then try speaking to your government about getting some more regulations in place. In the meantime, if the organization is causing some advances in the areas they claim to help, then it's worth donating. Personally, I'm more invested in other charities, I don't fly mining barges, and I don't like the color pink, so I will probably not take part in this particular drive. Don't fault people who do, though, unless you have specific evidence to indicate that the pink ribbon campaigns are completely ineffectual.

A single procurer SKIN is 400 AUR
A pack of SKINS for barges is 1200 AUR
A pack for Exhumers, Primae, Noctis is 2000 AUR
A pack for all the large ships (ie. Bowhead, Orca, Noctis, etc.) is 4000 AUR

From the webpage about the campaign, it looks to be ending on 1 November.

The Porpoise won't be available until they can be built after 8 November, so I guess not included because they don't yet exist and the SKIN can't be used.

Would be good to have it included.

I sincerely hope they will adjust the packages or add single purchase for the single most used ships. Small and medium seem ok, though a lot wont need the odd ships out, which means they won't sell on the market either.

It's worse for the large bundle, Orca vs the other 2 combined is probably 1:1000 used (or wanted). A single Orca purchase would get me to buy one (and some of my associates), we have no need for Bowhead or Rorqual skins and they will bring on the market less then the other spare from medium bundle.

Well, we got a few days for those .. I will hold my aurum till then. Otherwise, appreciated ,)

Cheers.

Thank you for supporting Breast Cancer research, CCP. My partner recently had a dangerous lump removed and I was glad to see she received a lot of help and support from the medical practitioners and existing charities that helped her through the process. I'll be purchasing these SKINs to show my appreciation (and because I like SKINs), but who caved in and decided to let pink ships into EVE?

Next time I think it would be a wonderful idea to perhaps support more underfunded cancers that are more relevant to the vast majority of your playerbase. It is no secret that Breast Cancer research funding worldwide is consistently about double of that received for other forms of major cancer, including such massive killers as lung and prostate cancer (1), (2), (3).

SKINs for prostate cancer research especially would provide some desperately needed funding and allow us to save more capsuleers in dire need of 'IRL structure reps', if you know what I mean. Blink

Thanks for your consideration. o7

Bundles are terrible,in my opinion when dealing with charity let people come as they are Roll i d have probably contributed to this fund raiser if we could have bought individual skin.

FYI, if you're thinking "Pink Ribbon" automatically means "Susan G. Komen" that's not the case. Per Komen's own website they do not have a presence in Iceland.

As near as I can tell the Icelandic organization CCP is partnered with has no affiliation with Komen.

So players from all over the world donate to a charity that only benefits Icelandic women? Isnt that a bit ... selfish? I mean Iceland is tiny, my city alone has almost 10 times more inhabitants.

But who doesn't want pink barges? I mean really I want a whole set of skins.

Oh, I perfectly understand, Hal Morsh — a mission like this requires courage, skill, and heroism… qualities you are clearly lacking. Have you forgotten you're one of the bloody immortals!?

'Troll or just plain st... ?!'

Ok, I'll bite Roll

First, even if the organization is based in Iceland, it does not necessitate that the beneficiaries are Icelandic. The Icelandic Red Cross did go abroad... they didn't have a nice party buffet Roll

And I am sure, that if Icelandic researchers in Iceland, with Ice... and so forth ... would find a cure for cancer, will keep it for themselves, cause, you know, national borders and such Shocked

Second: Even if the beneficiaries are only in Iceland, there are other organizations for other places and so forth, and I am sure all will be equally internationally viable. I am quite certain they won't deny acceptance of a donation, just because it comes from another country!

Third: You choose to buy/donate or whatever, it is by choice, nobody is forced, you can still donate somewhere else and buy skins off the market via ISK ... and deny donation - LOL

Anyway, Troll Blink

PS: And yeah, read the article

Pink ribbon for breast cancer research/awareness is used internationally and doesn't belong to any single group. It originated in Australia, but is a common symbol globally now.

You think you're being insightful but actually you're just blinded by your own negativity and pessimism. There's no magic bullet to save the world, but small acts of charity can make big differences in the lives of tiny little people a world away. It would be nice if everyone just gave all the time and actually lived only on the bare necessities we need for survival, but comfort and enjoyment are tangible, we are flawed and utopia is a dream born of naivety.
Give if you want to give, don't if you don't. You owe the world nothing and the world owes nothing to you.

Just sayin.
