IMO, you will need a much larger hauler very soon. Freighter, Viator, etc.

+1 Trained my alt into a cloaky transport and have never regretted it ever. I live in 0.0 so it is kind of a necessity. Combat skills always come in handy on any character, even if you are an alt. If you really can't decide what to go for first, get support skills, ie. Capacitor, Targeting, EWar, Armor Tanking skills, ect.

Ultimately, if you specialize too much you find that things arise which you wish you could do, but can't because you specialized too much before you have a well rounded skill layout.

For what it is worth, I have a "mining-only" alt character.

The progression of this alt character has been:

1. Max Hulk (includes core and fitting skills, plus T2 mining crystals).
2. Max T2 mining drones.
3. Transports.
4. Freighter.
5. Battlecruiser (gas harvesting, so no weapons).
6. Strategic Cruiser (includes T2 weapons, for PvE when not mining).
7. Logistics 5 (already had Cruiser 5 from above).
8. Anchoring 5 + Propulsion Jamming 5 (for anchoring large bubbles).
9. Starbase Defense (already had Anchoring 5 from above).
10. Heavy Interdictors (already had Cruiser 5 and Propulsion Jamming 5).

Currently working on maxing HIC skill and getting T2 bubble.

The main point is to build upon what you already have, if not directly then with related skills (like hauling is related to mining). There are many paths you can choose, and a skill like Cruiser 5 opens up a lot of possibilities.

I strongly recommend some combat skills, especially battlecruisers for both PvE and PvP (at some point you will be involved in a war). Tier 1 & 2 battlecruisers also use cruiser-class weapons, as does a Strategic Cruiser.
