So I looked at the (proposed) Porpoise.

Supposed to be a cheap Orca, costing anywhere from 40-70 million ISK.

And with the new mining drone stuff, and its drone bonuses, be an effective mining ship on its own.

So.

How long until people decide it's better than a Hulk ?

Because it is certainly cheaper, and much more....tanky.

And yeah, even tho it is supposed to do its mining with drones, I fully expect to see mining lasers in the high slots..........

Everything in EVE is a trap.

And if it isn't, it's your job to make it a trap...:)

Does it have turret hardpoints?

But it has no turret hard points and I thought mining lasers still require a turret hard point. And you can't fit strip miners (requires no hard point) unless the ship is flagged for them. I could be wrong though.

Also, it has a band width of 50 which means 1 mining drone. Plus a player with have to train up drone skills Instead of instead of mining skills. I honestly don't think you will see tons of mining porposes in place of hulks.

??

Last time I checked, mining drones were light, and had a bandwidth req of 5. Same as with volume. They plan on buffing t1 mining drones (t2 are going to be the baseline, apparently). This ship is capable of putting out 5 medium drones, or 5 light......or 2 heavy/sentries. Or any mix thereof.

Being a mining command ship, I do believe it can fit strip miners. Orca's can (IIRC).

My bad, I was thinking of the ice mining drone coming out. They ar3 the 50 bandwidth drones. But no, the orca cannot fit strip miners.

If I recall correctly the Orca cannot use strip miners.

Just a thought but to help cut down on robo-mining how about taking a class of ships, such as orcas/mining barges/mining frigates (all types) and prohibit use by any capsuleer not in a player owned corp after they become a subscribed account?

^^^^^^

I fully endorse this idea and product...:)

Never happen, of course.

Porpoise can kind of mine, Orca can mine as good as a mack, Rork as good as 4 macks. Interested to see fleets of orcas mining.

Well this is sort of a falicy

A max yield Orca (faction drones, max drone rigs ect) can mine as much an a T2 fit unboosted Mack (2 MLU and mining drones), once you add boosts (Orca) you go from 1410 to 2250m3 and higher if you add the buffed faction strip miners, faction drones and a third MLU.

Not to mention that mining droves have travel time and even when you are sitting on a rock hey are still not perfect.

That being said I'm sure loads of people will switch, especially people who mine solo in a skiff now, similar yield, way more tank and cargo.

Edit
Also based on the Dev blog a Rork should mine way more than 4 Macks , 18,400 m3 per minute for the Rork, vs 2250 for the Mack above including boosts, 18400/2250 = 8.18 HS boosted Macks (Or my math wrong?, The dev blog did say 5 Macks , 1 per drone)
