Handling multiple clients, Linux style

Hi,

I've made a short video demonstrating how one can manage their multiple EVE Online clients under Linux. I thought it may be of interest to some people, particularly those using Windows or Mac, to see how easily you can handle multiple clients with the right desktop setup under Linux. A demonstration of another way to manage your EVE experience.

From what I can tell, there have been some applications made for Windows to allow easy switching between EVE clients. Linux has a bunch of different ways of configuring it, so that you can set things up to work the way you want and do that kind of thing. The advantage of this kind of setup under Linux is that it works not only for EVE clients, but indeed any program.

My setup involves Windows key with a number 1 through 0 to flick between specific desktops on the left screen, and Ctrl+Windows Key and numbers 1 through 0 for right screen. It then switches desktop and gives focus to the window on that desktop.

If anyone's interested, here's some details on my setup:

  • Arch Linux (not recommended for new EVE users -- try Mint or Ubuntu instead)
  • BSPWM running as the Window Manager under XFCE, with keyboard shortcuts handled by sxhkd
  • EVE Launcher, Linux version
  • VirtualBox to run the Windows virtual machine

There's likely other ways under Linux than this to get hotkeys for specific desktops set up.

I was asked on reddit regarding arranging them 2x2 and 4x4. I think that the answer is yes, and here's a demonstration.
