Over heating mining lasers

I understand the sentiment; I recently made a fool of myself in a friendly spy channel, claiming my EvE client was probably broken and in need of a restart if/when I'd make port. Because my salvager refused to overheat (and I was a little pressed for time) ... turned out you can't overheat 'em. About half of my buddies weren't entirely sure either, the other half were probably too busy facepalming or headdesking ;-)

I like the 'cook it to turn it into an offensive mod' idea-- better yet if it bypassed the shield and started eating structure straight away

I know I will PVP more (even tho I'm just going to lose), because the alpha clone for me will be my "fun" clone because exactly the reason I don't do it now is because my toons are almost all industrial toons so making stuff is easy but losing clones trained in skills where they are more better used in an area to make stuff is being less effective and a toon made for PVP and no worries because your 'skilled' earners are doing what they are made to do.

In anticipation of the coming change I am in high production and buying right now so I can be prepared for the game play, at this very moment I am building 9 destroyers that will be used in PVP, with plans for many other ships on the way.

Except you know that you don't have to pay for clones right? And they aren't 'lost'
And you can do industry and PvP at the same time.
Even if you have industry implants I believe you can hot swap to a jump clone in the same citadel with no delay at all now.

So there is actually no reason to use an alpha clone when you can use a more effective omega clone.

Yup, alpha clones on the way, doesn't matter though I'm headed for WH and low sec \0/

So since we can overheat weapons, shields, etc, why is there no way to overheat mining lasers?

Simply because there is no tactical or game-mechanic reason to do so, other than to line the pockets of the filthy environmental despoilers

tac·ti·cal
ˈtaktək(ə)l/
adjective
of, relating to, or constituting actions carefully planned to gain a specific military end.
"as a tactical officer in the field he had no equal"
(of bombing or weapons) done or for use in immediate support of military or naval operations.
(of a person or their actions) showing adroit planning; aiming at an end beyond the immediate action.
"in a tactical retreat, she moved into a hotel with her daughters"
synonyms: calculated, planned, strategic; More

To ninja nice stuff to build things you want, including any advantageous opportunities that presents itself such as coming upon ____________<---------- fill in there, so in the spirit of gaining ISK or materials so you have an advantage over others, tactical. Any game mechanics is subjective, to say something is not therefore should not is to nerf your own opportunities because it is something you may not have an interest in but if I down your ideal because I don't see any point, besides it is moot, only the devs have any power to say yes or no, I'm just throwing it out and seeing if it sticks.

There would be a ratio of income by additional yield vs cost of repair paste. And once that ratio goes in favor of yield, you'd be stupid not to use it. But at that point the entire mechanic turns into an extra annoying chore to look out for. It doesn't add interesting gameplay, it doesn't add anything meaningful. All it adds is an annoyance.

So no, this is a bad idea.

I can see it actually turning into, warp to the astrohaus, wait for miners to be repaired, warp back in. Completely agree though, this doesn't add anything good to the game, just creates powercreep on yield with extra hassle.
