You can't rage-quit out of boredom. Unless you're 14. (I think I was about 14...)

But you might rage-quit if someone presses the right button at the right time. I'm quite a sanguine person in-game/out-of-game, so the most you'll get from me is perhaps a pursing of the lips. It happens.

Undoubtedly there are people playing this game whose habit of harvesting 'meaning' from all their interactions and activities leads them to identify closely with items and people they encounter in EVE Online. They genuinely feel a sense of loss when their Special Retriever blows up, or their 'wonderful' Corp is awoxed or wardec'ed into oblivion.

The intensity of their rage seems to be proportionally related to the depth and nature of their psychological investment in the 'bond'. I guess. I'm no psychologist.

Rage-quitters can be entertaining for some, but I just find them bewildering.

Considering how brutal this game can be I'm often surprised by how few rage quit posts there are. I've seen a few, but most people seem to take losses in stride.

I've never rage quit and rarely, if ever, read the F U all I'm outa here posts. But I've been angry, and most of the time , a little after the big bad Cluster, after doing a little internal debrief, it comes to me what I did or did not do that caused the Cluster. Like the time my frigate was popped in null-sec, I came back with a battle cruiser and it got popped, too. That's when I learned that no, one should not attempt to fight a gate camp solo, no matter what you are flying.

It's way too easy to take this game way too serious, chill out, have fun and remember those folks selling ships and fittings need to make a living as well.

this guy who apparently had a collection of catalysts on osmon tried to kill my mining alt

my mining alt was in the endurance with afterburner on, bit of shield tank. and i was semi-afk mining some ice

well, my cat decided it would be a wonderful time to throw up her dinner. so i had to step away to clean up and stop the cat from running around with puke on her paws...(was gone for maybe 10 minutes)

when i returned, i noticed i was at 50% structure, and there were 3 catalyst wrecks(i learned they were catalysts later in zkillboard) floating around

this 1 guy tried to gank me 3 times in 10 minutes.....when i got back i noticed he was raging in local about "ganking is dead, CCP making game to easy for noobs"
after watching him rage for 3 minutes he said the normal... "s**** this game i quit"

idk how he failed to kill my endurance 3 times in a row....guessing its afterburner ran out of range.

but i learned my lesson. next time i leaving combat drones out to get on the kill mail.

I know of such guy, maybe even the same one you are talking about. He lost a CNR worth ~40 billion ISK, after that purchased another one just to get baited by Goons who took it from him to keep it "safe".

The guy posted all over the Internet, I think he was a lawyer or something, he was going to sue CCP for taking his money. Big smile

I made a few breaks from EVE, but because of boredom, nothing else. Back in the days when I felt the rage few times I usually tried to take the fight back to the aggressors instead of leaving. Most of the time it ended up in having a good fights.

Yeah I think that was the guy Lol

I can believe that catalyst story if one guy using one cat at a time. I've seen 10mn AB fit for mining frigs for WH gas and a single catalyse will have hard time. With only 2 mid slots, he needs prop mod and a point, so no room for web. If web+scram, then may be hard to keep up with 10mn AB fit even with a web without a prop mod. It may have been possible if the ganker realised the frig was AFK and give up on point to have prop+web.

My favorite was still an old FW I members. He had saved up for a BS when they first came out. Sold everything to buy one with like L1 skills, he could barely sit in the thing. 20 mins later its a cloud of pixelated vapor and hes screaming in corp chat. We didnt see him for a few months and then when he came back he left after a few days again over another rage quit. Seems he took it into low sec and got it vaporized in the first system in.

This was 2003 and is always my favorite and first true rage quite story. The guy took it SO hard and personally.

How would he get three Catalysts in the belt in ten minutes while criminal flagged though? Dropped by an Orca or something? Sounds very fishy to me too.

TBH I'm not too sure about that, so yeah it may be fishy fiction. :P

I was just talking purely in terms of ship vs ship perspective, as some WH mining frigates are really slippery fit and I could imagine a Cat not being able to kill it too easily if completely solo.

Reluctantly displaying the vast depths of my ignorance: When mining I fly two Skiffs tanked up fairly well with a really big freighter chasing cans and cleaning up the rat kills. I do not AFK as the Skiffs keep me busy chasing cans and looting rat kills. My question, assuming the AB is a reference to afterburners, is what exactly does an AB have to do with anti-gank capability? That's assuming the miner is pretty well hove to whilst mining, but I've never ice mined so maybe the miner has to move about, but then there is the AFK part. My anti-gank tactic is fairly simple: Watch dscan, if a suspicious anything closes the belt I launch Hammerheads, when the guy shows up I lock'im, sic the HH's on him, wait for him to go hostile then ride Concord's coat-tails to victory. I've got AB's fitted but use them rarely, usually when crossing a belt to get the last tasty bit of rock. If the AB's can somehow boost anti-gank then I'd like to know just how all that works.

I am preparing to rage quit over the way CCP is turning the game into a cookie cutter , one size fits all mentality , in ship and mod design , and the constant , buff , nerf . I long for the old days ways , when pilots were gutsy and made due with what was available without the constant whining .

I was playing eve and this one guy kept targeting me, he put himself in harms way just to hunt me in both low and highsec just to get another kill mark against me.

I fought back and got him, then he wanted a truce, I told him
"You blew any chances of a truce just like you blew your father!" And logged off

"Let them try and come. They've got 3 for every 1 of ours, it'll be a great time"

It was moderately uncalled for, but luckily we declared war on his corps because they came after a couple of our guys

We won by a landslide ( I got none of the kills but proud~)

I've rage quitted way too many times, more than is healthy. Rage comes from being passionate about something but over the years CCP has made it harder and harder to care.

I'd say rage comes from not being in control of whatever feelings events might inspire. Babies rage about anything, wise old people barely rage at all, layers of thick bark grow and eventually everything is just "Meh."
I wanted to rage quit every week of my first 6 months in EvE. This and other experiences have led me to conclude that masochism, far from being a quirk or pathology, is a valid behaviour to adopt in an environment that treats you in a shoddy manner. Dignity and control is derived from suffering, but you persist and eventually prevail.
Then you're free to indulge in wildly sadistic tantrums in a well earned and completely rational destructive inferno.
The most affecting rage quit i ever saw was a friend who nagged me to fly bigger ships, got me into nullsec and taught me many things. I bought him an orca for his 50th birthday. We were moving out to NPC null with a corp, i in a DST, he in his Naga. He wanted to scout me through the low/null bottleneck in that. Naturally bubbles and dps ensued and in the noise and screaming i managed to get my DST through to base.
He was all torn up though, being one of those people who has never lost a fight IRL (uh-oh) and feels that violence should only be extended to those who deserve it.
I tried to gently explain that everyone in EvE deserves it but he'd had enough. No man ever likes to be told he's wrong but refusing to ever not be right is a path to the floor. He gave me a bunch of cool stuff, the orca too, changed his bio to some touching stuff about honour and haven't seen him online since. Haunts me to this day.

It's mostly raging about CCP's fuckups over the years, not actual ingame events. And yeah, I had/have no control over those.
