I wish skins were tied to a ship hull

I imagine a world where skins are tied to a hull like they used to be, but while keeping the accessibility that was added when they introduced licenses to them. Like a hybrid of what we had and what we have now.

The idea is that skins are something that can be used to modify the output of build, invention, or copying job. It can function similar to the way that descriptors work now by having the option to apply all available licenses to that job in the manufacturing window. The output, whether T1 BPC, T2 BPC or ship hull would have whichever skin applied to it, and anybody that used it would have that, and only that skin.

This would do something major that i can see benefiting skin holders. It is that they could produce BPCs or ships with the skin for a premium that non-skin holders would theoretically desire, and in this way be able to recoup the cost over time if they choose. This would increase the incentive to buy skins in the NES because they can continue to be a revenue buff over the long term instead of just one sell order. Plus it would allow people that don't want to spend as much on a skin to have access, as long as the hull lives.

I don't see this as breaking the skins because ships die frequently, and theoretically these special ships will sell for a premium compared to the default skin ships would. I don't think they will become saturated. I believe that this would actually increase the desire to have skin licenses. I have many skins for ships I fly a lot, and would like to monetize them via modified BPCs and would definitely pay extra for a ship/BPC with a skin for skins I don't own.

Please enlighten my on why this is terrible, I am aware of the fact that they would all require database entries.

in a nutshell: you want back to what we had prior to SKINs?

Ok cutting through the fluff here your basically wanting skins licences to be an applicable to a production run which means i could in theory produce the Sarum Magnate rather than just a regular magnate? just to be clear. ( will use example throughout )

If this is your goal OP here are my thoughts:

- Needs to be a % Chance for this to occur, most likely by copying a BPO to get the skinned BPC, cannot be 100% or else people will dump $$$ on Aurum and buy skins just to mass produce the hulls and bank in on that with 1 skin producing a limitless amount of say Sarum magnates. Think of it like ( And I hate to say this ) Critical Success Crafting from other games where if it lands outside that % its just a regular magnate, but if it hits the % you get the Sarum magnate.

- Not a bad idea at all, decently thought out once you cut through the fluff

yeah because i want to go back to a market full of duplicate hulls...

besides this would hurt ccps wallet as fewer skins would be sold

Market clutter would be a problem, and imagine a world where indy carebears are buying up all the skins to apply to the ships they build. I still believe this would increase sales.

I agree that it would be ideal to have a chance based system similar to invention when attempting to add the skin to the BPC, but I dont think it should consume the BPC if it fails or T2 skins will be rare.

or one can buy skins and you know...enjoy them. Kind of why they are permanent. In old form they sold even less since one time buy, takes one time to not want your ship anymore and....well SOL.

If thinking cosmetics would be the path to riches....seems guessed wrong.

For performance reasons many zoom out. We don't even see ships.

Or we are just focused elsewhere. What does my boat look like half the time...I do not know. I run my rattler I am watching target lineup, overview, drone UI and the rapid ammo count. I see my heavies taking their lumps I make the call to ride it out or pull em when I see red. Even with navi comp II and faction drones (more ehp) I can lose drones if call made late from not watching that drone UI like a hawk.

Or with CCP's sales tbh honest you can buy these for better rl money and aur from account management. I know gasp, the horror...paying for stuff. How I've done cosmetics insay heroes of the storm. Sale good enough, have my pile of gold planned for something else I can slip blizzard a few bucks.
