Spheres are good for ships in space. They can hold a lot of internal volume with less of external shielding that can fail. That shape is the best for biggest ships, like battle stars and death stars.

Yes, aerodynamics do not matter, but with some of these wonky designs the center of mass is not in an ideal location. This would cause the thrusters to be used inefficiently while turning, as the left or right side had more inertia than the other. This is why symmetry makes sense in space.

I used to switch to space engineers when I felt like realism. Haven't done so for some time though. Guess I'm actually fine with the fictional pat of EVE.

We're almost through the last of the ugly Caldari ships, and the osprey is one of the few left that desperately needs a redesign. What's the point of repping my fleetmates if looking in my general direction is more damaging than any opponent could be? I'm running out of medium sized paper bags :/

Stfu.

The old designs were perfectly fine. I loved the blackbird, now its some random piece of internet art I could've pulled from any number of talentless places. Oh, give it more polygon shapes, make it flatter, make it spikier! Great!

Weep for lost awesomeness. Moa was badass I flew it all the time.

Don't kid yourselves. Even the dirtiest pirates from the birth of EVE have been carebears. They use alts to bring them goods at cheap prices and safely, rather than live with consequences of their in game actions on their main, from concord to prices

Not even close. The best shape is a long rectangle. The surface area will be more for same internal volume with a cube, but less for a really long rectangle. Furthermore, a sphere has defensive issues with hull breaches.

if the nose or tail or a rectangle is breached, you can cut it off very easily. If the "side" of a sphere is breached, you've lost a LOT more space to seal it off.

The idea that sphere is ideal is just laughable.

[Opinion] The old Moa was the only ship I think looked truly hideous. I really liked the old Blackbird and the Griffin. I flew them both, and their T2 variants, and was always happy to do so. Back then, I wasn't reading the part of the forums that dealt with ship models when they changed the Blackbird. I undocked and honest-to-god I thought some graphics glitched must have happened because the game had me rendered as what looked like a Gecko drone. Obviously, re-docking and undocking didn't fix it, and I was about to file a support ticket when a corpmate saw me undock and made a comment about the new Blackbird design. I was like, "Wtf? It's supposed to look like this?"

I'm still of the opinion that the Blackbird variants are now just different degrees of Gecko drones. I don't like the new look at all. Same with the Kitsune. I don't even know what I'm supposed to do with a Kitsune anymore. It looks like a caltrop, or even one of those children toys where you have to pick up a bunch at once...jacks I think they're called?

While I'm very happy the Moa got a nice change, I'm not a fan of these other Caldari redesigns. I heard some other ship models got changed, from Amarr I think? But I don't recognize what those changes were.

I guess the moa was so ugly it started a trend.

The Moa was the Osprey's daddy, if they do redesign it I hope they keep the round shape but make it look like it transmits something.

And if you think that ships should be more ergonomical or symmetrical because "thats what would work better in outer space with thruster omg", then you better ban the minnie T3 outright, as half its mass is to the right or its main thruster assembly.
