Gutter Press has learned that a Rogue Drone Hive is intending to run for President, in the next election !

Sensational !

The Hive, known as ObjectController39, has seemingly recruited a number of consultants, to manage their campaign. Gutter Press managed to talk to a spokesperson from Luminaire Political Solution Management, who claims to be representing ObjectController39, who had this to say:

"It is time for a change in politics. For far too long, politicians have placed their material interests above the welfare of the citizens, the latest example being the pork-barrelling of President Roden and the lucrative contracts given to Roden Shipyards. What we need is a president who has no interest in material wealth"

Integrity !

The spokesperson went on to outline ObjectController39's three key policies.

Efficiency in Government - under ObjectController39's rule, government agencies would become far more efficient in their spending plans.
Productivity in Citizens - a program to enhance the economic output of the Federation through more effective allocation of citizens talents.
War Against The Heretic Machines of Perrigen Falls - a strong foreign policy to contain external threats to the Gallente way of life.

Strength !

This news was met with astonishment and surprise from many Senators, and Gutter Press spoke to one, who had this to say about the prospect of a Drone Hive president:

"I'm not sure if it's legal for Drone Hives to run for president, but if it is, I intend to propose legislation to ensure that it is not."

Legality !

Another Senator had this to say:

"Well, this is an issue we would need to resolve sooner or later. If this drone hive was umm, are they born ? well, if they were born, or the equivalent, in the Federation, or immigrated to the Federation, then, well, why shouldn't they be allowed to run for President ? Is that not the whole ethos of our culture ? That anyone can be anything they choose to be ? Well, if a drone hive wants to be president, then I, for one, would welcome it."

Progressive !

Reaction on the streets of Caille was mixed:

"A drone president ? Well, at least they wouldn't embarrass the office of the Presidency with relationship problems, would they ?", said one Gallente socialite.
"I voted for the other guy!", said a Mannar taxi driver.
"Gallenteans.", said a visiting Caldari businessperson.

The next election is still some years away, but perhaps ObjectController39's early declaration of intent may be significant in the results !

This Senator should consult his advisers before speaking,. If ObjectController39 is in fact a Rogue Drone Hive, it would not be allowed to run for Presidency. There are many reasons why this would be, but I will cover two.

First, a collective is by definition not an individual. The same laws that keep corporations from running for the Presidency keeps a Hive from running. Second, Rogue Drone Hives violate many interstellar laws, not the least of which is a moratorium on advanced artificial intelligence. The Federation would have to break with CONCORD in order to allow this drone to be President.

Ancillary to this would be the fact that the drones are, by definition, objects and not people. It would be as if my mining barge wanted to run for President. It's not going to happen.

Now, I'm not saying that the drone could not put it's name on the ballot. It wouldn't even set precedent in fact. Some Gallentean voting districts have had similar "joke" candidates in the past, including (if I recall correctly) a Fedo and an Intaki "Linked Mind Collective". The latter of those two were embroiled in allegations of slavery shortly after the announcement and subsequently jailed on tax fraud before the election.

In short, no matter how interesting (and beneficial) it would be to have a Drone Hive Mind as President, it will never happen.

I guess if they had a drone president they would have to admit that all of those drones are just fancy slaves with a high metal content.

I, for one, welcome our new international drone overlords.
