Kristof had been relieved that the Stargates had not opened fire on him and CONCORD let him past with no trouble. The Federation had not flagged him as a criminal. This meant that the Federation forces that had been sent against him were likely clandestine. Landing at the Centre for Advanced Studies had also been trouble free.

Kristof stepped out of the pod dripping with ectoplasm; he was hyper alert as he scanned the private landing bay for Federal police or anyone for that matter. The bay was clear though and so Kristof made his way straight to the terminal and contacted Agent Seville Eyron.
The blond man’s face appeared on the screen.
“Kristof Roxton, I hope you have good news for me?” Seville didn’t seem surprised to see Kristof; perhaps he wasn’t involved after all.
“Wolf is dead.”
“You’ve done well Kristof. I think you may be ready for greater challenges. The ISK will be transferred to your account immediately.”
Kristof decided not to mention the Federation ambush, the Agent didn’t seem overly concerned about Kristof’s return. Switching off the terminal Kristof headed the bay’s sonic shower and the ectoplasm that clung to his flesh responded to the soothing sound waves and it fell off of him leaving him clean and dry. Going to the landing bay locker and slipping into spare clothes Kristof made his way home.

He walked quickly and scrutinised everyone who passed him, he wished he had his laser pistol with him but it was in the top drawer of his dresser in his bedroom, which was actually a good thing as if he had brought it with him it would have been destroyed when the Atron exploded alongside his favourite vest top.

He got home unhindered however the front door was open; a metallic object slotted over the retinal and DNA scanners. Reflexively he went for his pistol remembering too late he didn’t have it on him. Cautiously he approached the door and stepped into the lounge. He froze in shock.
The woman he had brought back to his apartment last night was naked and dead sitting tied to a chair, she had numerous cuts on her arms and legs, was missing several teeth and all but one of her fingers and her red hair had been pulled out in places and her right eye was mashed up and her face bloody, nose broken.
“No sudden moves Mr Roxton.”
Kristof jumped upon hearing the steady male voice behind him. A man was standing at the kitchen counter top dressed head to toe in black. He had a crisp clean look about him that screamed Federal Intelligence.
“You tortured and killed Mya.” Kristof said flatly regaining his composure slightly. This man bore no obvious weapon.
“She was not very cooperative. I see you survived the destruction of your ship.”
“So it was you who set up the ambush.”
“Mr Roxton, the Gallente Federation does not take the hacking of its mainframe lightly especially when files are accessed that shouldn’t have been.”
“This is about Wolf?” Kristof asked letting anger creep into his voice. The man remained silent.
“How is that even on a protected server? Every Capsuleer older than a month knows the truth about the Wolf clones, or if not the whole truth they know enough to piece together the main gist of the training program. I assume the other factions have their own version of this training program too.”
“I will need the datacore you downloaded the information onto.” The man looked emotionless.
“Who the **** are you?”
The man flashed a holo ID, it showed a black Gallente eagle outlined in white against a dark background. He was an agent of the Special Department of Internal Investigations and Federal Security or as they were more commonly known - the Black Eagles. There was no name on the ID but he didn’t need one.

Kristof looked over at Mya and back at the man in black. Many emotions threatened to bubble to the surface but Kristof managed to keep them in check. He moved slowly to the sofa and knelt down feeling for the catch that would open the secret panel beneath the right side seat and from there he retrieved the basic datacore.

The Black Eagle did not flinch during any of this and seemed unconcerned that Kristof might have been reaching for a weapon, as that was how confident the man was in his abilities. Kristof brought the spherical basic datacore over to the man who took it from him. The man produced a cable, one end slotted into a process socket at the base of his neck and the other into the sphere. The man was a Capsuleer.

Kristof waited patiently as the man processed the data on the sphere. Once he was done he looked confused.
“That was all?”
“Yes. Everything I copied from the mainframe.”
The man paused considering his options. Finally he removed the cable and pocketed the basic datacore; he then turned and moved towards the front door. There he stopped and turned once more to face Kristof.
“If you are caught hacking the Gallente Federation mainframe again Mr Roxton I won’t be so merciful. Have a nice day.” And the man left Kristof’s home.

Kristof let out a sigh of relief and he closed the door. The metal objects had gone from the scanners. That was too close.

He checked his bedroom and made sure his weapon was still in the drawer which it was. Then he opened a panel in his bedroom wall and from an alcove he pulled out a vial of nanites and returned to the lounge. He poured the nanites over Mya’s body and they began to work breaking down her cellular structure, within an hour there would be nothing left of her, as if she had never been here.

Moving back to the sofa he closed the secret panel beneath the right side seat and then he opened the secret panel beneath the left side seat and retrieved the elementary datacore. Connecting it to his internal terminal he passed over the files for Wolf. The basic datacore had contained a further copy of these files with the hacking logs to make it seem as if that was the datacore used for the hack.

Kristof browsed over to the other file he had downloaded from the Gallente Federation mainframe, the real reason the ambush had been set up and why Mya had been tortured and killed by a member of the Black Eagles.

He selected the file; it used a Jovian encryption key and would take some time to crack. In the meantime Kristof could only wonder what was contained in the file marked Project Overwolf.

I enjoyed this tale, and think it was a good use of the game to inform the plot.

Keep reading. Keep writing.
