driver freezes & occasional crashes

I am having random display driver freezes, and, earlier today, it crashed one of the 2 clients I had running.

The screens would go to a blue screen for 10 secs or so while it recovers, and event viewer says:

Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered.

If this happens in quick succession (like 3-4 times in a minute) clients start crashing, and the event log from that is:

my PC specs are:
Windows 10 pro
Asus Z170 Pro gaming
Intel i6600k oc to 4.4ghz
EVGA GTX 970 SC+ factory clocks
16gb corsair vengence DDR4 3200mhz
XFX Pro 650w

I have done sfc scannow, and it didn't find anything wrong.

I have not tried dx9 yet, but I have heard it is being discontinued sometime soon? Might try it though, and see if it helps. Would really suck to get into pvp and have this happen.
