SP is a problem for player retention, and there's a simple fix.

I bet you could never beat Commander Keen 4.

What you want is faster gratification and the expense of a long time adventure.
What you don't see is that the time spent between skills is meant for people to play with what they got.

The benefit from this is constantly new things to do, which increases the likelihood of someone playing long-term by establishing social bonds, which happens eventually.

In no way or form does your idea benefit the game. It only ...
... and absolutely only ...
... benefits the short attention span players who only care about their fix of fun, literally like junkys ...
... at the expense of everyone else who actually likes the game ...
... and at the expense of the game itself, because everything goes so fast.

What your idea would do is kill the game.

People would run all faction chars at the same time, switching around as they desire. Having each clone set to a single faction only would not lead to sequential playing through, especially because the amount of variation is seriously limited by gameplay. The ship differences are nothing compared to the fact that the game is still played the same way, no matter what ship you use.


Sadly do I highly doubt your ability to not just respond with the first thing that comes to your mind ...
