Just read about this, I think its pretty smart marketing, what this does in my eyes is keep players who have high skilled toons still subbed while bringing in fresh blood that doesn't need to pay to play but will add more of PvP as they get involved, this includes mining and limited pve.

If they like it they will pay to get full benefits, just adds more bodies into the mix, nothing wrong with that, I await my alpha clone o7

well if it was smart marketing, they would've done it a long time ago considering ccp has always been way ahead on future business models, ccp knows this is very toxic, but they're also seeing massive migration to star citizen as the game is becoming more complete, and doing this as a way of competing with star citizen, besides in case you forgot, there's already a F2P model, and even as a noob you can easily get enough isk in time to buy up plex to play for free

The current "play for free" method, which isn't even actually free, becomes less sustainable as more people try to use it: see plex prices that have risen over time. If everyone does it it breaks down completely (no one feeding plex into the game). This on the other hand expands infinitely and automatically.

It also is far more gameplay activity divorced. One doesn't have to seek isk apart from a primary fun gameplay activity, assuming the role is doable within the alpha limits.

When I started out playing EvE, an Alpha account would have been fine. I could have taken my time to get to know the game and probably wouldn't have subbed for several months. Just getting my ship to do *stuff* was hard. The desire to have a battlecruiser would have motivated me to sub though... today there's just no way I could get by on an Alpha account. I don't think this is going to have a very significant impact on the players who presently have an active account. You aren't going to unsub your current character just so you can dink around in a gimped cruiser. That would be a waste of time, and endlessly frustrating. What it will do is get some more newbs on the server (a lot hopefully) and might convince unsubbed vets to pop in and check out the game again. A lot has changed in this game in the last year or two. This Alpha/Omega thing is an absolutely necessary measure. We've been hemorrhaging subs for a couple of years now. I think CCP is making a really good move here.

As for your post, OP... I don't even know what to tell you. Did you even read the dev blog? Judging by your post, you did not. So basically, you don't understand the game and you can't read. Maybe EvE isn't your thing.

Threatening to unsub, and then staying subbed, is the most cliche threat these forums see.

Shiptost, OP.
