no it wouldn't, because if that is the case his target wouldn't have gone back to flashy orange.

Well, maybe he fired back

That makes sense. The strange thing was how he went from flashy to neutral right as I scrammed him, which barring some horrible overview priority problem, means I have horrible luck.

When I get home, I'm going to post a pic of my overview settings to see if anyone can identify a problem in my settings that I need to address.

On the up side of this, it gives me a great reason to take my main back to null. Never had this problem there, lol!

Posting a screeny of your overview priority settings is just about the only thing that is going to yield any kind of useful advice.

If I had to guess, it sounds like it is most likely caused by having your pilot states ordered incorrectly in your settings some how. The second most likely thing would be the previously mentioned aggro timer expiring at the same instant you agressed him, however that is much less likely.

Ok, so here is a link to a picture showing my overview settings. If you guys can figure out what the problem is here and how to fix it, I would consider it an awesome Christmas present!

Well, the overview settings and priorities seem to be solid. However, i have a few notes from my own experience:

  • Yellow background and tag for negative security pilots bear no useful information whatsoever - pilot being negative security alone does not change anything about combatability and it does not reflect the threat level in any meaningful way, so my advice would be to drop it altogether (in fact, i have no idea why CCP insists on keeping the setting for default overview, because it generates so many questions about it in the likes of "what does yeallow background mean, can i shoot it?").
  • Shootable everywhere targets should be identified by something special, like blinking background, that would certainly bring it to your attention as fast as possible, this includes militia/corporation war targets and outlaws. All of those are shootable everywhere. Outlaw status also applies to a pilot currently criminally flagged to you, thus is shootable everywhere as well (unless they're in a pod, but then they won't have the outlaw status, thus not breaking the rule).
  • Multiple colored backgrounds usually add up a lot of confusion on screen, especially during battles, with various records jumping around - but this is tutally up to one's preference.
  • 'd suggest to have corp/alliance tags to have hogher priority than bad/horrible standings, because it sometimes happen to have a negative-standing pilot in corp/alliance, it might cause some incidents, especially when personal standings are involved.

Now, i have a pretty simple setup for overview. I have colored backgrounds only for targets that i can shoot everywhere - war targets and outlaws. War targets have black blibking background, while outlaws have red blinking one. Makes it extremely easy to discern one among multitude of various pilots in overview. The downside to this is that you will see your outlaw corp/ally mates and frienlies as outlaws on your overview as well. But this does not matter because you should not have them on your combat overview at all (with some rare exceptions).

And regarding the first post - the only viable solution to this is that his flag expired just before you attacked, ot it was a background glitch (when for some reason background sticks to the wrong object on the overview until a "hard refresh"), which, sadly, still does happen sometimes (the main reason i removed most of the colored background back in the old days - i did not like having outlaw stations and horrible standing gates on my overview). Knowing this, always check out the tag status before engaging, tags always refresh properly.

Ah, you seek meaning? Then listen to the music, not the song.

Thank you, probably the most useful reply in this thread.

I have moved that one terrible standing bar down to where it belongs, and am going to get rid of the yellow/neg status tags, as I'm not sure why I even kept those to begin with...maybe thinking they'd be useful some time many months ago when I set these?

As to my Concord, it sounds like I was a victim of bad timing. Which is a bummer, but oh well.

Thanks to those who posted constructive replies.
