EVE New Citizens Q&A

Hi all,

Ever since I started playing Eve, I have basically been doing the same thing. Running Security missions in High Sec space. I last played just over 2 years ago, just after I got a Golem. I have decent skills to fly it, and also decent skills to fly my stealth bomber (I wanted one just cos I liked the idea of it).

However its invariably the same. I play for a few weeks / months / whatever and get bored of running security missions over and over. So I am looking for suggestions for where to start branching out, whether thats something new that has come into the game since I was away, or something I missed first couple of times around.

There is SO much information out there, its hard to know where to start, so it would be good to have some ideas from others.

Yeah, find bad people to go do fun things with.

Find bigmouthing carebears.
Let them run their mouths.
Wardec them.

Eve can be played at a tactical level, where you undock - alone or with friends and look for something to shoot - asteroids, NPC rats or other players. It can also be played at a more strategic level where you set goals, plan how to achieve them and work the plan. Once you've achieved a goal - set a new one.

The mechanics of Eve, or any game will eventually become boring and repetitive - you need a "metagame", a purpose beyond the mechanics, to keep it interesting.

Someone suggested to me the other day the idea of doing some burner missions, I've never done them before.. so if right now I was to just need a new spark or simply to blow it up and start it over I'd look into trying that. Maybe do something weird like a pirate faction's level IV missions to make it interesting out in nullsec.

If you want a little adrenalin to go with your ISK-making, you could always dive wormholes or do low/nullsec combat exploration sites. People will try to kill you, and sometimes succeed.

I certainly second exploration as a lot of fun and a great income!

The most entertaining thing for me to do in game is pvp. Thus i log in primarily to do that. Since its more efficient( and possible) for me to work IRL and buy and sell a plex then to spend hours grinding, i do that to keep a healthy in game bank account.

This frees up my in game time to do whatever i want. I no longer care about the most efficient use of my time. If i want to do a little market supply in my home market in null i do that, if i feel like making big rocks into little rocks, or big ice cubes into snowcones , i do that. If i feel like exploring i do that. If i feel like killing rats, i can change it up and do a little belt ratting, a plex, a couple of anoms, etc. I dont have to use my most efficient ship in the most efficient way because im not grinding income. Im just entertaining myself.

The freedom that i gained by not having to worry about grinding isk has allowed me to enjoy the game, rather than turn it into a second job that pays minimum wage in a third world country.

Edit: I am in an alliance with really good SRP. I literally only pay for ammo used and drones i lose. My insurance payout covers either the mark up or shipping fees from jita for a replacement ship/fit. So once ive invested into getting all the doctrine ships, i only have to pay for ammo used and drones lost. 1 billion isk will last me 3-9 months in pvp unless we use a new doctrine or i go on non SRP roams.

Regardless, you dont have to have a fat bank account to enjoy this game. You just have to work the game instead of letting the game work you.
