So much NaCl here and on reddit over this. Maybe you people should stop playing EVE just to whore on killmails.

Workarounds are not bugfixes.

Well no killmail pretty much ensures about half the people who showed up this time wont give a damn about the next one, but maybe that was the point......using tidi as a tool frowned upon?

A couple of years ago there was an event sponsored by several groups, with a Revenant put up as the main ship to whore on.

From memory the event ended up with the most people in system in the game up to that point (there was certainly some milestone passed, and I think that was it).

Same thing happened. The amount of data broke the killmail server and no killmail was generated.

However, it was more than made up for by the green on everyone's killboard. There was salt initially as it was only the 2nd Rev to die, but everyone moved past the tears quickly.

Same will happen here. Everyone will get over it.

Well, Logibro posted the raw table data. It might have been better to actually do the DB query to pull the names and ships instead of the raw data. Now it can't be posted as you can start black-hatting with some of that info... DOH!

CCP Logibro, love the effort, but may have shot us all in foot with the attempt! LOL! OUCH! Shocked

So in the end, it appears the killmail was too big and didn't get generated. However, I've gone back through the logs and assembled the data in the following file. It's only got damage information, but in some ways it has slightly more data than you would get from a killmail (especially if you were using multiple ships or weapons).

EDIT: The actual Final Blow should read

but caching means it might still show the old line.

This was an unarmed one, an armed one would probably need even more ships. Given the effort involved in taking these things down you're probably going to want to look at a solution to that. The community wants its killmails. ;)

But for one thing. That's NOT what he said. Other than that, the rest of your complaint was...real, man.

Look at how many Titans and Dreads were blapping at that thing and it still took several hours for it to go down, with no shields or armour. An armed, online Keepstar is, for the moment, essentially impregnable until or unless CCP fixes the Damage-Cap-Scales-In-TiDi thing (amongst other fixes that need to be made).

Currently, you only get one realistic opportunity to kill a Keepstar: as soon as it's done anchoring. Once it's operational, forget about it.

KMs are the bane of a truly great game and should be removed from Eve Online.

They are free intel, they promote shooting anything that moves simply to increase your stats, and they are partial the cause for some of the risk adverseness out there.

The game would be better off without KMs, though there could be some less generic stats that are generated for individual and Corp purposes.

Not sure that whoring to completely one-sided kill made by NCPL has much 'bragging rights' or worth for anything really.... One thing this kill does - it kills all reasons to even look at 'KB efficiency'.

Squizz put something together based on Logibro's record:

So you're saying CCP reinforced the node while what they should have done was reinforce the Killmail server? Lol

Awesome work from CCP Logibro.

However I must point out that there is no point in creating these big "content enablers" single point objectives, if it's to then have limitations on other aspects of the game, like killmails, that are relative to the number of players.

I fully understand that it is a technical challenge, and that scaling a limit from 10 to 11 isn't the same as scaling from 2000 to 2001... But the very fact that the killmail wasn't generated due to too much people on it, is really one of the most blantant misunderstanding of what EVE is coming from CCP in years.

I mean, if there is ONE game where you can always expect a sh*tload of players as soon as there's blood in the water, it's EVE. Clearly, that fact and the fact that this isn't the first time this happened is showing an underlying issue.

If the Palatine Keepstar is ever built, and almost inevitably destroyed, should we expect such issues to rise again? It seems like a yes to me, and that's just not acceptable when we're talking about features that are already in game right now.

Of course, the quality of my gameplay doesn't revolve around a killmail... But the fact that an issue that would (and HAS) so obviously arise wasn't fixed, is a bit disturbing.

They used to do eve mails in the old days so it really shouldn't be so hard to do that
