I am thinking of forming a 2 ship team of a Apoc Long Range sniper with a another shyip to run protection for the sniper. ATM with my limited knowledge I am thinkin g of a Carrier. Does a carrier get double the amount of fighters like the old drone bought. if so I am thinking a Gallentte thanatos. if you agree, what would bea good fir for a ship that was doing protection duty for the long range Sniper. so first what is the best ship for that duty, then what is a great fit.
thanks in advance, and is there a bvetter place to post this?

you want to protect an sniper apoc with a thanatos. O.o just get a frigate for tackle, or a second sniper

Issue with Long Range gate sniping is most fleets and brawler BC's are now running with at least one Micro Jump Drive, which really will cause you a lot of issues with certain ships. A Carrier in any form is good at damage application on anything that is not a frigate or destroyer hull.

I'd use a less risky setup if I was doing this though, as people will be more than happy to scan down that Carrier for science.

I've seen some people solo camping gates in a Navy Harbringer with a jump drive, if your running with a mate another one of those or similair will sort you out.

Judging by your questions you don't have the level of skill (actual skill not SP) to fly ships like that, you WILL lose the Thanatos instantly and be laughed at, closely followed by the Apoc.

Suggest instead of using skill injectors or a purchased char to buy your way to victory you learn how to construct these fits for yourself, and potentially more about what you'd like to use them for and why this plan is doomed to fail very hard indeed.

Being on a 2011 character your character is far from new. I am not sure if you purchased the character and are therefore a new player. Regardless IMHO questions about carriers are typically not new player questions as they pretty much need to be always used in fleet in low or null sec and used in PvP.

I guess if you actually are a new player then go ahead and ask away but this line of questioning right here that you are asking in the NC Q&A is exactly why I was against skill injectors. Other than that I really don't think that this question belongs in the NC Q&A and should probably be moved to Warfare & Tactics.

Carriers are not for new players (even if you have the skills to fly them).

Perhaps if you explain a little more what your purpose is we can help you find a better solution. Are you talking about PVE? PVP? why do you want to snipe? What do you need "protection" from? Why did you pick Apoc (I have a feeling there might be a better choice depending on your goals).

thanatos is an excellent protection ship for your apoc, heres why, the thanatos will be instant primary thus giving the apoc enough to warp off to safety.

dont double post please. You already asked this in ships&modules and have not answered any replies there which leads me to believe this is a troll post.

Yeah, not really NCQ&A material.

However the discussion of long range tactics is.

In HiSec, long range is useful in PvE. In any security space it's of limited use against players. As has been pointed out, there are plenty of counters and your target can always just run away because you can't scram at 100km unless you're an NPC.

I ran rails and SPIKE ammo all the way up to Large Turrets in HiSec. It worked fine but I didn't wipe out targets the way the blaster guys did unless it was one-shotting frigates and two-three shotting destroyers. The blaster guys could Alpha destroyers.

So, yeah, I rarely took damage from NPC's but I have more fun up close and with blasters now, but you have to watch out for a ton more garbage going on there in the furball.

Note that getting a carrier setup isn't really a "new citizen" thing, you're looking at 6 months to a year just for the core skills, not even counting the huge ISK investment into skillbooks and the ship network itself (including cynos alts).

I'd recommend looking at sentry drone boats as an intermediate step, the Domi/Gila/Rattlesnake/Ishtar really shine at just dropping long range sentries, setting them to assist your main and then keeping a loose eye on them until the room is cleared out. The skills you learn in a drone boat will largely carry over into carriers if you decide to go that route later, and let you earn good ISK with a lot less investment now.
