How many people do you think will be playing Skyrim for as many years as they've maintained their EVE characters?

Yeah, Eve is dying, blah blah blah... If I'm going to spend money on a game subscription it better be worth it (ie, intelligent design and gamplay). SWTOR is a joke.

Next topic.

I doubt SWTOR will affect Eve. Once you tasted the emergence of a sandbox MMO, the experience you get out of a very linear themepark MMO is lackluster to say the least.

Take Eve's sandbox and put a StarWars skin onto it and I'm in. Take WoW and put a StarWars skin onto it and I'm out.

Been there done that, now I'm looking for more.

Skyrim is clearly the larger (temporary) threat to EVE. I play it, some devs play it, even the boss of Goonswarm does.

That said, at least one of my corp is inactive at EVE because of SWTOR.

It only becomes dangerous when games as good and friggin big as Skyrim start appearing regularly every few months... which is not going to happen.

SWTOR is totally different and absolutely not comparable to EVE. SWTOR looks more like Tabula Rasa and WoW mixed together.
EVE misses stuff that SWTOR has and SWTOR misses stuff that EVE has.

Exactly, the two cannot be compared. EVE has 9 years of existence, and a huge depth of gameplay. SWTOR is just another refreshing break, one you play two months then quit…

I don't know about you lot but ALOT of our corp has gone inactive to play SWTOR.
Am i delusional or is this affecting eve population seriously?

What, a game that is totally different from EVE in almost every single way apart from the fact it is a) online and b) multiplayer. You may have well said "My corp left to play football in the park".

…aside from the simplistic game play, the idiotic NPCs, the smallness (yet emptiness) of the world, the lack of quests, the pointless storylines, the hilariously bad minigames, the console-ised UI, the reduced options, the horrendous character designs and voice work. But yes, I suppose the grass looked nice.

Tried some SWTOR during beta. You'd have to pay me to keep playing that. Skyrim on the other hand...

EVE is at a point where the only thing that could (currently) kill it is its own players or CCP, or some convoluted combination of both. The game market has yet to produce a suitable substitute for this niche.

well my alliance mates who went to try out SWTOR made a thread "how to grief SWTOR pubbies"

they figured out its no fun to grief in SWTOR, so they went back to eve

True. True.

“The salient feature of the games is that, as violent as they are, the player is removed from any actual physical threat. This has a profound influence on a player's tactical decision making. What cover does a soldier/player take, what rate of fire do they select, and at what range do they engage with the enemy when their avatar never "fatigues, never runs out of ammo, and simply "re-spawns" if killed?”

Most of my corp (comprised of mainly 2003-2004 players) stopped playing just before the incarna thing, not sure if it was because of that, or just a case of burning out. Either way, they're now all on SWTOR and loving it. Personally, i will never allow origin on my machine, so i'm playing skyrim for now.

Eve is slowly fading to a memory for me at the moment, though as stated above, you never really quit. I guess i'm just hibernating for a while.
