Everything we wanted to know about Dust 514 and weren't afraid to ask

Many thanks to Drizzcat of newedenradio.com for getting some questions answered by CCP on behalf of the dust514 community. Phil Wang, the CCP community manager for eve online and dust 514 took time out to answer our questions. Enjoy.

interesting...

This caught my attention,

Quote:
We are dedicated to making a smooth integration for the SONY Move. But we also want to allow choices for the players. Some may prefer DS3, while others may go with Move and still others might want to use keyboard and mouse. We will be providing more details on this later on.

Okay they're aware that people want keyboard and mouse support, but I thought that officially keyboard and mouse won't be supported (For the FPS part anyway), so why mention it at all?

i dont see a problem as long as the groups are separated

keyboard + mouse vs keyboard + mouse
controller vs controller
move vs move

nice interview btw :)

I find it very unlikely they will separate people based on which control system they are using, especially as people will be grouped by corporation and alliance. An artificial division based on what hardware people are using doesnt make any sense. All they are doing is offering choice.

Oh, and cheers. Lol

I hope it does support KB/M, since I use my PS3 at my computer desk.

Allowing multiple control interfaces to actively compete with each other just means the superior method will win the majority of the time, thus forcing you to use the only viable option unless you play an FPS to die over and over again.

That doesn't make for a good gaming experience. I bet CCP does it anyways to be FEARLESS however

well there has been allot of movement on providing mouse/keyboard support on the ps3. These days you can plug in a whole host of wireless keyboards in your ps3 and have a mouse and keyboard support in your menus.

Having them in games is but a small step and everybody who owns a ps3 most probably has a keyboard..., but some people do play better/prefer the six axis thing.

So pretty much this answers nothing about the concerns of Dust and its functionality and connection with Eve. Its funny to see the only things thats being talked about is the type of controller you can use with Dust.

This is not fair at all:

CAN I HAVE EXOTIC DANCERS? (IMPORTANT QUESTION)

We are looking to support this, and maybe even allow you to tip them. but this will probably not happen early on.

So DUSTers will get our exotic dancers and full 3D interact with them and we can only transport them in our cargo???
Give a little love to exotic dancers in EVE too... its too cold in my cargo hold...

I don't want that my exotic dancers love DUSTers more then me...

It is a MMO FPS game tied into the Eve universe. WHY would they EVER want to artificially split the game community... Which part of two games - one universe needs explaining...

Dust is going to fail so badly it won't even be funny. Console gamers don't have the attention span to play a game like this for years on end.

It won't be the attention span of console players that kills the game, it will be the pissed off PC players who will be indiscriminately orbital striking the dust players to grief them off the game because they don't want to pay for an overpriced piece of plastic crap just to play one game.

+1

When you consider that there is a whole new player base about to join us, integrated at corporation and alliance level the control method does seem to be a bit of a minor issue...

A console FPS that supports mouse turn and aiming?

I might buy a PS3 for that.

Well if you've been keeping up with Dust most of that has already been answered quite extensively, and the rest of the interview wasn't much news to me either. I just found it odd them mentioning keyboard and mouse.

Hey anyone remember the original Playstation mouse back in the 90's? You could use it for strategy games like Command & Conquer. I also remember first person shooters on consoles before analogue sticks ...I remember attempting a few demos, like Quake 2, now that was painful Lol

Well let's look at the other options for consoles ATM...

WII - fail from to word go...

360 - since CCP stated that it wants Dust to be free to play and free expansions and microcrap refuses to offer free online services. It kinda explains itself...

I'll stick to my PS3 and it's free online services (that occasionally gets hacked) and free to play online games. Like Dust 514...
