If North Korea collapses, China will get a huge flood of refugees. It's one of the bigger reasons that China props up NK. NK also acts as a buffer between China and pro(-ish) West forces/countries.

Then there's whatever nuclear weapons tech that would fall into gosh knows who's hands if NK collapses. Finally, the capital of South Korea is within artillery range of NK, and NK has a huge amount of artillery, plus NK has the 4th largest army in the world. If it were to collapse, the chance of something bad happening (i.e. war) to South Korea goes up quickly.

Plus if NK was to slowly start unraveling, the government would have an even tougher time feeding the country and would probably resort to really outlandish and/or stupidly violent behavior to force the US/SK/China to send them food and fuel aid to help stabilize the country.
