I feel as though you are not aware that the entire point of a "sandbox" game is that there *is no goal* - you have to make your own goals, and measure your success on your own scale... The game won't do it for you. And that is by *design*...

Deal with it or go find a linear story game that gives you set goals to achieve in a set order...

Um...actually, that was the point. The group goals that are set generally are "get in random PvP or fuel random PvP". Solo goals don't get past the "just messing around" level either, since large scale game effects can't be powered by solo players.

You lack an argument there.

The goals you know aren't really interesting.
The goals you don't know are the ones for you.

You need to find them for yourself, but you have to stop thinking in terms of game-play and -mechanics.
Most people don't really see beyond that.

Chribba is a solo player...

I'd say he has set and achieved some pretty lofty goals for himself...

And to my knowledge he has never fired a weapon at another player...

Aaaand again: kinda my point. Taking away his meta-game contributions, his most noted achievements are "giving players a reason to play other than just shooting random people". Which, I might add, was not a solo, in-game task.

Give a group of players a reason to break out their ships ("Defend this guy we like", "Take place in a festival") and he becomes a beacon. And one that is rare enough that he becomes famous for it.

So your point is....what?

That a sandbox is a sandbox?

I would never have guessed - thank **** we have you here to do that hard thinking for us?

The dead swans lay in the stagnant pool. They lay. They rotted. They turned Around occasionally. Bits of flesh dropped off them from Time to time. And sank into the pool's mire. They also smelt a great deal.

No...my point was that maybe some people are burned out because the things you can do by yourself are very limited and have such a small impact on the game world, whereas the things you do with a corp tend to be based around just messing around for it's own sake.

Like the OP was referring to, there is a lot of grind for low reward. It doesn't help if there's not much investment in what's going on around you to justify that grind.

The OP was a troll who either successfully got himself banned, or biomassed himself in shame. We know he wasn't *just* a forum alt because Ralph found him in space in an ishtar. What happened to him? We'll never know for sure. Personally, I'm just glad he is gone P

As for the game - you are limited only by your own imagination and the amount of time/effort you are willing/able to put into the game...

If a solo, casual player could put in minimal effort and make a major impact in the game to rival those who have assembled massive armies and dedicated untold millions of player-hours.....well....That would be a severely broken system, and nobody would ever want to play it...

So again... If you are not interested in playing in a sandbox...then the great sandbox game that is EVE is probably not the game for you...

My sub runs out in Nov.

I don' t think I'll be renewing.

I've lost my motivation for the game.

EVE's too "jobby," either flying alone or with a corp.

Most activities are time intensive and low reward.

The game demands too much grind for everything now (think Scope Network).

Citadels show this to be a continuing trend.

Has EVE become too "jobby?"

It's funny, because just by playing any MMORPG, you accept spending your days doing something which is very low reward and very time intensive.

MMOs are intentionally made to use lots of your time and it's a game, so the only "reward" you usually get are the few "big prizes" the MMO rewards those patient enough to grind for them.

It's not like other MMOs are going to give you much better rewards than EvE. Maybe more colorful ones...

He has, actually. On several occasions. He's just so ******* terrible at it that nobody ever talks about it and there's pretty much no evidence Roll

When you don't know the difference between there, their, and they're, you come across as being so uneducated that your viewpoint can be safely dismissed. The literate is unlikely to learn much from the illiterate.

Eve really is a game for unemployed people or retired folks.

Its a prothstetic job / life simulator for those who don't have one irl. Eve can be really good at simulatiing a social life as well for those who live 'trapped' or secluded lifestyles.(house dad/ moms etc)

That said its really good at doing what it does. Worked for me for years - kept me sane. But luckily for me the world has suddenly started turning good again after a decade of misery. Finally my country has its independence - working is viable again and the world is smelling of roses. Im so busy i barley have time to post on the forums anymore let alone run my invention batches. The future is so bright i have to wear sunglasses etc.

Enjoy eve during the dark times in your life it will keep you going.
