Caracal RLML PvP tactics

Hey guys,

Finally made enough money hacking down WH relic sites to feel financially comfortable taking this baby out. 100% sure I'll be killed the first low sec system I enter, so am really just wondering how to make the most of it. I've only PvP'd once or twice, before giving it up for exploration lol. If all goes to plan I'll only be attacking solo frigates, and trying to kite them in the hopes I can get the kill before my first reload.

Here's my fit:

Rapid Light Missile Launcher 1 x 5 (CN inferno light missiles 1)

Large Field Extender 1
1MN Afterburner (couldn't fit a 10MN)
Adaptive Invulnerability Field 1
EM Ward Field 1
Warp Scrambler 2

Ballistic Control System 1 x 3
Damage control 1

Medium Warhead Calefaction Catalyst 1
Medium Core Defense Field Extender 1
Medium Anti-EM Screen Reinforcer 1

Any other tactics other than not shitting the bed would be great to hear!

Thanks!
Mac

Ooohh you said a wordShocked

I don't see how you'll kite when you have a 1 mn ab fit!?

Look at hard wiring implants to help fill the shortage of cpu/pg. Also make sure your core skills are up to L5

Get those fitting skills up brah. I can run double LSE II's with t2 launchers AND a 10mn AB to boot.

Post with your NPC alt main and not your main main alt!

You're flying a missile ship, speed is important.

Without a medium prop mod you're slower than a no prop frigate, you ain't kiting diddly.

And even if you had one, any sensible lone frigate pilot is going to run away as soon as he sees you; you're in a Caracal.

Fly around in a Condor or a Kestrel if you want to experience solo missile PvP, because undocking in that Caracal has 100% chance of ending badly with no chance really to gain experience.

Unfortunately you seem to have fallen into the common trap of believing bigger is better. This really isn't the case, especially when you're low on skillpoints and experience. The Caracal is renowned for its frigate killing capabilities, and as such your chances of catching a lone frigate with one is slim. This is further compounded by your dire locking speed in a cruiser, even if you manage to sneak up on them unawares they will have ample time to simply warp off or pull range.

But let's assume you catch one, what happens then? Unfortunately your 1MN afterburner leaves you four times slower than an average AB frigate, 90% of which will have at least one web fitted. They simply coast out of point range and escape.

That's a run of the mill Caracal fit, I'd stick to smaller ships until you can fit something comparable to the above (meta modules are fine). The Kestrel and Corax both perform simlar roles in combat to the Caracal, work your way up the hulls while you wait for skills to complete. Once you're able to fit the Caracal correctly, don't expect to fight lone frigates. You can handle small groups of frigates and destroyers by knocking out weak targets on your initial clip and maintaining range or face tanking the remaining DPS until your reload completes. More often than not, these fights are simply a race to kill more than your ship costs before your tank breaks. Outside of plexes, your range is your biggest asset, make the most of it.

Never ever ever fit straight T1 modules. If you can't fit T2 then fit meta.

Also what May said is very true, you're better off in a kestrel than a caracal at this point.

Really good advice, thanks everyone!

Edit: And I'll definitely hold on to my Caracal and start with smaller frigates until my skills are up to par.

Depending on your age a cruiser will serve you very well too. As long as you are fairly new to the game or have a positive sec status and a non existant killboard you will be fine.

Use this fit:

[Caracal, nano + cap]
Ballistic Control System II
Ballistic Control System II
Ballistic Control System II
Damage Control II

50MN Cold-Gas Enduring Microwarpdrive
Warp Disruptor II
Large Shield Extender II
Large Shield Extender II
Fleeting Compact Stasis Webifier

Rapid Light Missile Launcher II, Scourge Fury Light Missile
Rapid Light Missile Launcher II, Scourge Fury Light Missile
Rapid Light Missile Launcher II, Scourge Fury Light Missile
Rapid Light Missile Launcher II, Scourge Fury Light Missile
Rapid Light Missile Launcher II, Scourge Fury Light Missile

Medium Polycarbon Engine Housing I
Medium Semiconductor Memory Cell I
Medium Anti-EM Screen Reinforcer I

Acolyte II x2

(replaces stuff with meta and/or rigs with fitting mods to make it fit), also dont use t2 vs anything that isnt a cruiser - always use faction vs frigs.

Now DO NOT RENAME YOUR SHIP!!! , a caracal named "caracal" (or any other name) is a potential pvper/priate doing something sinister on dscan, a caracal called "Macallan Lux Kalen's Caracal" + a bad or non existant killboard screams noob and pver which everyone will go for. because the pilot clearly doesnt even know the basics You warp to a fw plex or belt, stay at 0m/s and spam 1au dscan, if anything scary pops up you warp away to a safe or station, otherwise you sit there and wait. If something lands approach, point/web and f1.

The reason caracals/vexors arent that great for newer players is because they are scary and thus usually mean people will use scary stuff to fight you, you cant really engage a caracal or a vexor in a t1 frigate or a dessie. By not renaming your ship + being new + having a bad killboard people wont take you serious and will take risks - which means they die.

Also if you start in cruisers fights which you lose take time so you learn something, while frig fights are over in seconds.

rlml can be a pain, that long reload will probably kill you in most cases
