So far I've preferred living in the citadel due to quicker ship changes and free reps. I do miss the insurance service, though. Plus I can quickly pop into a 39k DPS monster if the situation warrants. Twisted

Unless you have a fleet standing by at every 3 hour vulnerability period for your Astrahus, which admittedly, most small corps or wormhole dwellers probably do not - it's pretty much kiss your 2+ billion investment goodbye - if some small party wants to have some gang bang fun.

That's precisely what a sane operator of a Citadel, especially and Astrahaus, would have on standby during the vulnerability windows and with an active War Dec. I'd never put one up betting that I'd get lucky and have it just stay unmolested all the time. The War Dec is crucial though and those have some alert/aware time before they engage, unless you're talking about Lo/Null where the War Dec is unnecessary, then the Citadel has to be manned for defense during every vulnerability window... and that means a stationed fleet.

I'm not sure how this fosters or incentivizes more exploration of Wormhole space or how this helps the game in general.

I think the idea would be to have small gangs find them in WH space and attack them. I'm not sold on that idea being right though. Too many in known space to attack and deal with, why bother with WH space?

Now, on the flip side, the Astrahaus would be the perfect bait option for those small gangs. They come in, attack, and a host of defenders boil out of the Citadel like an anthill, pointing and wiping them off the face of New Eden. That would chill the small gangs fervor for the tactic.

Yeah its the lack of being able to buy insurance for the ships that bugs me. I really hope CCP doesn't make it a module....

CCP has been pushing players to move into citadels by making NPC stations more expensive, so if CCP makes insurance a citadel service module that requires fuel to run (like the market and clone service modules) then you can expect CCP to either make the cost of insurance in a citadel cheaper, or to increase the cost of insurance in an NPC station. To compensate, I'd expect CCP to direct some cost of insurance in a citadel towards the owner of the citadel.

Oh, Demica, I thought of another way citadels are better options than NPC stations, a way that I don't make much use of so had forgotten - refine rates at nearly 90%. (I think some fleetmates were saying they're getting 87.5% refine or something like that?) Plus, you can have a clone that has expensive, high-end implants for refining and don't need to worry about losing it since you can instantly swap clones in a citadel without any cooldowns.

what irked me the most about them is the cost involved especially as a pos replacement.

Yeah, the cost is ridiculous.

Not only the medium structures but also the large ones ( Fortizar ) are very easy to destroy, and this is something that was posted times and again ever since the Citadel patch was not released yet. Only the Keepstars have an advantage by being able to fit DD's.

CCP "forgot" to mention in the blogs that these structures are NOT the expected POS replacements.

A couple months ( and a trillion isk destroyed ) later finally thought it would be good to le us know - see CCP DEV post in this thread
