Enemies.... Where Would We Be In Eve Without Enemies?

Those people that hate you just because youre you.

Those people that will follow you to the ends of New Eden just to give you a loss mail or die trying.

Those people that will pretend to be your friends just to stab you in the back.

Those people who will hate you forever....

Where would we be without these people? Without them Eve would be a boring place. Without them there would be no fun, no content, just endless farming and WoTs in space. No no these people deserve a round of applause after so many years. The guile, the intrigue, the madness of their hate has kept our corpses warm in the vast cold, darkness of space.

To enemies young and old.... I salute you!!Twisted

Have you heard anything I've said?

You said it's all circling the drain, the whole universe. Right?

That's right.

Had to end sometime.

Enemies are good. People to fight against is good.

We could do without the people who take it too far.

The number of times i've come to hate some person, or group and ended up flying with them and finding out they are ok guys who don't afraid of anything.
I've always found it easy to make friends in space, which is detrimental to my enjoyment of asploding spaecships.
Soon enough i can't shoot someone without upsetting a bro.
Even with a language barrier, behaviour alone can lead to grudging respect, then actually liking local trouble merchants.
Clearly the problem is me, i have to be less friendly.

Funny how this is isnt it? Last time I shot a "friend" and linked the km to lol with them they left the channel we were in, oh and the time before that. Its what happens in a PvP game when your just on the wrong side of a lossmail that means nothign but pixels I guess and you want to laugh with a "friend" about it and realize they arent much of a friend. So it depends... some do get better and you respect them, others you do end up despising. Its kinda an interesting phenomena really.

Edit

In the end its the emotional responses that we remember. What was intensely emotional that are tied to our distinct memories is what ingrains and burns into our psyches, personalities and memories more than something mundane and daily. Shooting that NPC will never give you that emotional connection as an emotionally fueled interaction with someone you hate, love or have any feeling too. And the more polarized that emotion is, be it good or bad, will create a much deeper memory image within the brain. Why do you think women, who are more emotionally biased than men, can remember things so clearly? Its because the deeper the emotion felt at the moment of the creation of the memory the more distinct and stronger the memory is. Try it yourself. Think of memories of your past. How many of them had a strong emotional pull or value to them? Even if you didnt understand or think of the emotional connection at the time. The older you get the more you remember your childhood more, mostly because this is the emotional equivalent to crack; first memories are the strongest emotionally.

Make friends, make enemies. Love, hate, FEEL deeply. This is what will make an event, any event transcend time and space and burn into your psyche more than some mundane event ever will. Blink

Only reaction I am able to squeeze out from myself when I end on someones killboard is: Oooooh nooo, my ISK. More grind...

I am curious what others are feeling when they see themselves.

I had an enemy once.
I miss him so much.
Veers was my nemesis.
No matter how much sense I howled in his direction, he was unyielding in his wrong-mindedness.
I had to admire his dedication, despite loathing all he stood for.
Now he's gone, and I feel lessened.
I hope he's doing well with whatever it is he's doing.

Come hell or high water, this sick world will know I was here.

Indifference or smug satisfaction. Ships inevitably explode, and people usually lose more than they gain from killing me.

For me it's either 'That was fun!'
Or... 'Holy crap, how drunk was I?!?'

The nemesis, the arch rival, the arch villlian are the mainstay to all good stories and good themes within all things. Without them almost no good storyline is complete. Without them we are no hero, no villian, not anything.... we merely exist and drift around doing whatever that seems worthy but unless the conext of a nemesis is added seems droll and forgotten and once vanquished we do miss those days of heady glory where we battled ferociously with our arch rival for ultimate domination!! And the twinkle in our eye and the spry in our step returns for but a brief moment and then the flame is once again extinguished..... for we are less without them than we ever couldve been with them.

To be said, I do miss laying the steaming killmails of plex bloated mission runners at his feet in response to his relentless devotion to uber-carebear mentality.

It was a motivator. Heck, a year ago I renamed the month December as 'Veerscember' as we dropped corpse after corpse at his feet.

I miss that guy.

Was it a "good fight"?
Was there a chance of winning?
Was there a chance of escaping?
What did I do wrong?

Sometimes I care if it was a really stupid loss (e.g. hauler to faction police) or the fight was close and I did an avoidable mistake (e.g. wrong ammunition loaded). But most losses are to situations where I'm tired or not taking care about the ship I fly, some are to good fights (these are the highlights, same as a close win), so nothing to worry about.

I'm my own NPC alt.
