I want to be able to fight in highsec without CONCORD interfering. I want all ships fitted with offensive modules or drones to be exempt from CONCORD or other NPC protection, including mine. I want to take a fleet into a citadel-bashing fleet and wreck them, or be wrecked by them, without bothering with war decs or anybody going criminal. Otherwise defenseless mining, industrial and transport ships, as well as defenseless combat ships, are the only ones that should ever get CONCORD spawns when shot. Ganking ships, Incursion ships, and security mission ships all should only have themselves and other players as protection. In other words, for combat ships highsec should be like NPC null except without bubbles or cynos.

In lore terms, CONCORD and NPCs tell us players they're busy dealing with drifters and we should HTFU and protect ourselves if we want to fly with weapons.

Hey...you're an NPC.

Yep, looking to break a guy mentally into quitting your "minigame" after you scammed all his ingame assets is obviously still part of the "ingame".

Sounds pretty ingame to me, since they scammed him for ingame assets and they made a great effort to keep everything ingame. Not sure what you mean by "break a guy", they simply requested that he sings songs to get his stuff back. Does not sound too serious if you ask me.

I will accept that this is "in game" as soon as you demonstrate in game how a character can sing. If you can't, then obviously it was out of game.

Why do some folk just automatically assume that high sec dwellers want or need content creation?

Why do some folk insist that carebears 'need' to leave high sec and go to low/null/whs?

This game is supposed to be a sandbox, where folk get to choose what they'd like to try and do, not some exercise in bashing round pegs into square holes.

Bashing pegs into holes is an entirely different kind of game to Eve.... and one aimed at infants.

I think the game is as good as the people you meet in it. If you meet the wrong people it sucks, but when you meet the right ones the sparks begin to fly. The problem is finding those people to make content with, and most of them likely don't give a damn about these forums or even reddit.

Is this about singing ransoms again?

I don't know why I have to keep posting this.

Your entire argument is someone didn't care about having to do something so it must always be ok. This is a flawed argument and also entirely miss the point I was making about it being out of game...

I'm sorry you had to link something irrelevant I guess...

Except it's not irrelevant. It's CCP's direct endorsement of singing ransoms. Here's the thing, you get an option, no one's forcing you to do it. You don't have to get your stuff back, or save your ship, or whatever. That's entirely your choice. At the end of the day, you've already lost it anyway, and the singing ransom is merely an option you're given to get it back.

There are any number of uncomfortable situations that players can be forced into in this game by simple virtue of it being the single-shard sandbox that it is. Is discomfort, or "I'm not okay with that", a reason to make it not allowed? No, of course not, or ganking would be banned. The singing ransom is no exception, and this isn't the only example of CCP stating in no uncertain terms that singing ransoms are fine. Your personal problem with that is the only thing not relevant here.
