A question on skill training for the new Citadels

Somebody correct me if I am wrong. From what I understand the skill "Starbase Defense Management" relates to the old POS structures where are being removed. I think I read somewhere that this skill will be refunded once the POS are removed from the game.

The following skill below are what relate to citadels:
Structure Doomsday Operation
Structure Electronic Systems
Structure Engineering Systems
Structure Missile Systems

It might also be helpful to have the following fighter skills:
Fighter Hangar Management
Fighters
Heavy Fighters
Light Fighters
Support Fighters

Is my understanding correct and are there any other skills needed for Citadels?

Fighter skills are not required - this was a bug fixed in the 118.6 patch. Anyone who can take control of the Citadel can use the fighters.
Doomsday skill is only relevant for Keepstar outside highsec.

Ok, so my understanding that the "Starbase Defense Management" skill is not needed is correct then?

Starbase defense management allows you to operate the weapons at a POS. It is not required for a Citadel. CCP have deliberately lowered the bar for Citadel defense so relatively new players can perform the role.

Whether starbase defense management is repurposed or removed (with reimbursement) hasn't been announced that I am aware of.

Some say it's a good thing ... some say it's a bad thing ... but as has been pointed out above, CCP have made it very simple to set up and run a Citadel.

- Skills required are little to none
- Configuration and management is a dream compared to the dreadful old UI tools for POS
- Fuel consumption is low (or even zero without services) so you don't spend forever feeding the thing

That just leaves the cost and the risks. Not everyone will have a couple of billion to invest, but it's not an excessive amount, probably less than some of the bling fit mission ships you see flying about. And experience suggests that an Astrahus at least is not the big target that many thought it would be.

The main argument against setting one up is that you probably don't need it, but Hey! what does that matter? If you want some New Eden real estate, go for it.
