Park a Venture beside a mountain of Veldspar and chill, I guess? Looks like you could use that downtime.

A Minmatar warship is like a rusting Beetle with 500 horsepower Cardillac engines in the rear, armour plating bolted to chassis and a M2 Browning stuck on top.

Eh, I'm a lot less bitter now. I started writing that awhile ago and now that I've been back home for awhile and gotten a chance to relax, I'm cool. It helps that I haven't had to talk to her, though. I just can't deal with that on a regular basis, ya know?

Told sis Alitura to slot off? That's the style.

Anyway, all this Dagan's case stinks. We captured four Dagan clones and all of 'em are still holded in our containment facility. We don't expect S.O.E. to explain that crap.

Only 50 million? Hell, thats like 3 hours of work. You can easily make that in a day.

We were able to capture a couple from the hive, and she immediately confiscated them and "Poof!" they were gone never to be seen again. There was definitely more going on, but as usual she wasn't letting on. I don't care, though. I'm pretty much out of this and onto new business. Could be pretty damned lucrative, too.

See? That's what I told her. I mean, the isk is really the least of my worries and in fact, I've got that an more now. The real issue for me was doing the market research, making the right connections, stuffing the right money into the right pockets. It's coming together.

But do settle in, have a drink on me, and tell me more about this 50 million in 3hrs business? Fill a gal in on that action.

It is a well-known fact that agents do not know shite about market value.

I know right? The woman was convinced that the 100k payday that she was giving me for some of these jobs was really big money. I guess it would be for a planet-sider. I personally think she resents capsuleers over the money, but that's neither here nor there.

100k is a good income not only for planet-siders, but for most of the spacecraft captains too. Not for capsuleers. Canned fishes buy and lose hundreds of millions worth ships (and it's crews) per day - for baseliners it looks like madness.

We guess S.O.E. made and run that "Dagan hunt theme park" for it's own purposes - to test new capsule operators for their conformity and loyalty as new tools for empires. It was made for standing gain and approval - not for money.

As someone who worked planetside as a clone soldier 100k is what I got from my worst contracts the average is 250-300k per 20 minute contract

I mean, it's a lot of money for me, too when I think about it in terms of lifestyle. Right now, my isk-stack is pretty low compared to others, but I'm still the richest person in my entire clan right now and everyone in my family is already pretty well off(I have a distant cousin and great uncle that are capsuleers too, but we never see them, so I can't say what their net worth might be). I've been going first class all the way since I became a capsuleer and it barely makes a dent in my cashflow, but my lifestyle would bankrupt even the wealthiest members of my family. But compared to other capsuleers, I'm a pauper. Weird.

Squeamish, but open. You know, a couple of days ago, I would have just outright not have been interested because I'm really into station trading and that can be done just fine in highsec. But it's been a weird couple of days since we put Dagan in the can (again, apparently this is a regular thing. Crazy, right?), and for a lot of complicated reasons, I've become more open to exploring and from what I hear, nullsec has sites that make exploring worth it.

What's the skinny?

Null sites do pay well. If you're not fond of your sanity, the ore out there is worth plenty. Or, if you want to stick to Highsec, L4 security missions pay well too.... as long as you avoid taking anything that has you shooting at any of the big four. I have cleared an L4 in 15 minutes alone and come out 12 mill ahead for it. (Note: When I do these, I'm in a ANI fit for the specific needs of that mission.)

Thanks for the tips, Claudia. The numbers that I've heard coming out of nullsec relic sites are about 30-50 mill per, pretty fancy stuff that. It looks like it's a pain to get into a nullsec system though, so I may wait on that until I have the bite for it. I have been doing some distribution missions for SOE and Republic agents, making my way up the level ladder. Is there any way to get to L4 missions quicker?

Ask another pilot to help you out by letting you do agent work with them.

Bunch of us can probably help you out, depending on circadian rhythms, agent locations and suchlike.

Much appreciated! And here I thought this journal was a waste of time, but here we are with all sorts of new opportunities. Life's full of fun surprises.

I also have a lot of new terms to learn. Circadian rhythms come to mind when thinking about terms that I don't know, but probably should Blink

In any event, I may have an opportunity to work with a pilot or two in the near future. Of course, I'll keep everyone posted.

Thanks for the suggestions!

It's another term for sleep cycles.

Not everyone sleeps according to "reasonable hours" when going by NEST. I'm often up through the "night" and don't end up going to bed until around 0700 or 0800, for example. It's fine by the local time where I make my residence when not flying, but by the time standard used on GalNet and by our Neocoms, not so much.

Ahh, I see. I have a bit of that, sometimes I'm active during the standard 'daytime' hours, but it all depends on what station I'm on and what kind of business I happen to be doing at the time and with whom.

Thanks for the tip! If I ever find myself in your station, I owe you a drink of your choice Cool

The Krusal Way

So, I’m still connected to this Dagan thing and as of now, we’re about to capture him. But I would be remiss if I didn’t talk about a new friend that I’ve made. I mean, how can you not talk about someone who, unbeknownst to you, passes you off as a Republic Intelligence mole to a dangerous smuggling lieutenant? In a nutshell, that’s Keita Eslin, Superior Special Intelligence Agent for the Krusal Tribal Investigative Unit.

“I’m sure you regonize Ms. Olgur here,” she said, giving him a fake name in a voice dripping with smug authority. “she’s been kindly feeding us information on your operation for months. You should be more careful about the type of entertainment you pursue, Mr. Garunhn.” Of course, none of this was true. I had never met Kirus Garauhn or had any dealings with the smuggling gang he fronted. Keita was making a big bet. From the transmissions we intercepted after our raid on one of the smuggler’s power arrays, we understood that Kirus liked his female entertainment. Keita, however was betting that he both didn’t bother to remember any of the women who surrounded him and that he had a penchant for spilling company business when he was in a good mood.

I won’t go into a lot of details until I’m sure we’re cleared of all charges, but it’s safe to say that this kind of thing is Keita all over. Aside from the usual Krusal traits of being playing loose with the truth and looking out for the best chance, Keita’s defining trait is that she’s an natural chance-taker who somehow seems to thrive off of surprises and reversals and knows how to play them well.

I realized this upon first meeting her after arriving with information about Dagan from Sister Alitura. I met her in a small bar near the main hanger bay at the Krusal Post in Hek and it didn’t take her long to figure out that I was a Vherokhior. She apparently had been promised some sort of bloodthirsty swashbuckler, but for not. “So I take it that you’re not the hotshot shoot-‘em up capsuleer that Sister Alitura made you out to be are you?” she said with a grimace.

“Nope,” I answered as I sipped my gin and tonic. “I’m afraid you’ve been suckered by the holy one. I’m allergic to heroics. It’s genetic.”

She was unfazed and merely changed the plan on the fly so she came out ahead. There were other surprises along the way, mostly bad, but we worked our way out of them, Keita bluffing and gambling her way through it all while I tried to take in as much info as I could to make sure the bets paid off. It was touch and go for awhile, but in the end, we got it done.

I have to admit that it was a joy to watch her work. I realized that what I like about her is that she’s chancer where I’m the exact opposite. As my mother always says to me, I’ve always got to be on both sides of everything. She’s right. I’m not comfortable any other way. Keita, on the other hand, didn’t seem comfortable unless she was making the big bet and going along for the ride. It’s unnerving, but also mesmerizing and I knew instantly that I wouldn’t get bored of her. It’s been awhile since that first meeting and we’ve been hanging out a lot lately when we’re both at the station, grabbing a bite, taking in shows, that sort of thing. I like hearing about her crazy plans that will probably fall apart at any moment and she likes hearing about my big, well thought out plans that will probably never come to fruition. After all, what are friends for?

It Gets In the Way

In the time that I’ve been working with Keita to ferret Dagan from this smuggling operation, I’ve got to see more of my immediate family. For the most part, everyone lives within a few jumps away from my parents place on Magiko, so it’s easy to stay in touch. I’ve also got another group of Loglor cousins who live between Teonusude and Orien that I’ve known all of my life.

My mom regularly holds a darjuh every couple of weeks and my immediate family tends to gather to gossip, share stories, and talk about people who aren’t around to defend themselves. And eat tons of paauri bread and drink tons of Enoki wine. It’s a fun event where family members come and go, secure in the knowledge that they always have a home.

There are plenty of times when I could take or leave my family, but I live for darjuhs, and so I was present for a lot of them over the past couple of months. Usually, I enjoy myself quite a bit, but something was off this time around. It wasn’t anything I could put my finger on, nothing specific. Just something about he way everyone talked to me. With any Vherokior, that can be a difficult problem to diagnose and honestly, I was about to let it go. But then I started talking to my older brother and just reading his mannerisms and tone, I could tell that something was definitely off.

Then I started looking around and paying attention and realized that there was a greater distance between just about everyone else and myself. I started to panic. What’s going on here? I thought. Luckily, my brother Festuvar showed up and was acting, well…normal compared to everyone else. We're twins, so it tends to be hard to hide things from each other. I grabbed him and led him out to the back patio to figure out what the hell was going on. He hemmed and hawed a bit before finally spilling the beans. “It’s the money, lovey,” he said giving me a playful slap on the cheek. “You’ve got more than anyone here, right? It’s gonna make a difference to people. Not me of course, I have too much class.”

And then it all made sense. I’ve been getting the cold shoulder from some clan members for awhile and now I understood why. When you start earning ISK, it’s easy to forget how much money that really is to everyone else. The moment you wake up in a capsule, you suddenly inherit an entirely different economy and you’re at the bottom of it. It’s hard to remember that outside of the capsule, you’re so wealthy that those around you really can’t comprehend you. It also doesn’t help that everything in my life is so automatically charged. My condo was purchased through and estate agent and at restaurants and shops, I just open up a running account and order whatever I please. Between all of that, the money hardly seems noticeable.

Apparently, it was noticeable to everyone else. As I floated around my childhood home, surrounded by people that I had known since birth, I suddenly felt like an alien, a stranger, an interloper. Eventually, I just started to acknowledge and make fun of the whole situation, which seemed to ease things a bit, but there was no denying the distance. The ship, as they say, had sailed.
