All evidence seems to point to "that brainwashed." However all evidence also seems to come from government approved sources, so who knows?

Life in Pyongyang wasn't bad for most people. It was everywhere else that sucked, and yes, lots of brainwashing. They grew up worshiping either him or his father as a god, don't remember which.

The scarier thing, is that if his son doesn't grab power, S. Korea is probably going to get ****** by a bunch of hyper-aggressive N. Korean generals. This includes the US troops along the DMZ.

It's kind of funny to look at how far the apple falls from the tree.

Kim Il Sung: Carved a nation out of the mud, fought the US supported South to a standstill.

Kim Jong Il: Amassed a massive Hollywood movie collection upon the backs of his people, connoisseur of fine wines and platform shoes.

I imagine Kim Jong Un will be a Michael Jackson fanatic and collect Andy Warhol soup cans.

I would not care how ****** N Korea is but they have to try to bring there Crazy to other countries.

I can only hope that when they do go Batshit we can Nuke them to ash before they harm the South with as little fallout as possible.

If the cameras are on you you're suppose to put on a show... Great leader maybe dead but his rules and influence wont go away for awhile. Note that everyone is crying in the same manner...looks almost rehearsed. That's because they're all acting.

Doubtful. A war would end the good times that the NK elite (including the generals) have been enjoying. The NK leadership needs a boogeyman (aka SK and the US) to help justify their grip on society.

Yes, the generals are enjoying their lots of money and free Lamborghinis.

they are, however, insane. Every diplomatic embassy and group of analysts in the world is pretty much certain that if they were to get power, bad things would happen. Kim Jong-Un is probably insane, but he's much more invested in maintaining his power base than the generals are.

Why would the generals be aggressive? Well when you're a hammer everything else in the world looks like a nail.

It would not surprise me if this were all acting... such things are common place in dictatorships like the N. Korean one. One thing is certain though, Kim's dead. Now what happens?

And the Generals would have to be REALLY nuts to get actually aggressive with S. Korea. There just isn't any actual sense in it. Unless you're crazy. Then it might make perfect sense.

I think things will stay as is. A political hot-pot.

They should've had their ass handed to them after they sank that South Korean war ship, or after they shelled a South Korean Island.

Of all the possible wars that we could get into, I think finishing the Korean war is the only one I don't necessarily mind the thought of...

North Korea has NO civil liberties
in north korea you are taught that Kim or w/e the leaders are are Gods and that north korea is the greatest country in the world
North Korea has one of the largest armies in the world, too bad all the money going into that could be saving the starving citizens.
if you try to leave the country you are killed

it's illegal to take video or pictures while in the country unless you get permission
there is a documentry where a doctor goes and cures simple disease in NK, when everyone is healed all the people go up to a church alter thing and say thank you to their great leader.

we shouldn't have went to war with iraq... we should have liberated North Korea i only hope that the death of their leader will give
+ some media attention so people want to help
+ a chance for a new leadership to take place
unfortunately he has a son, who will most likely continue the crap that happens but he is too young, so there will be a few years of hope.

I was stationed in SK. It's no joke. People go on with their daily lives and such, but I'd compare it to living next to an active volcano.

If the balloon ever goes up, hundreds of thousands and possibly millions will die on both sides in a matter of days, possibly hours. Seoul will be completely gone in under an hour. Other places like Taegu in the south will probably survive but there will be a massive push north to stop the barrage. The West would definitely win...both sides know this. However, everyone also knows that winning isn't the goal here...it's keeping the status quo that's of utmost importance. The casualties will be so high that winning is just an afterthought.

That said, South Korea is not NATO; they are well-trained, well-equipped, extremely disciplined, and tough as nails. They haven't fully embraced western military employment tactics but they are a bunch of badasses, make no mistake.

A better outcome: pull all US assets back to CONUS and if they want to be idiots, let them destroy each other.

Not that simple.

Japan will enter the war from the outset, taking on an active combat role. China will as well, whether it be indirect or direct remains to be seen. Then you have Taiwan, South Korea, and the US trying to not get pushed into the sea by a bunch of fanatic communists while Japan will be as busy as a one-legged man in an ass kicking contest, trying to keep the aggression away from their island while supporting the operation. Not only will it be a bloody mess but you have three of the world's biggest economies that are all about to nuke each other. It's not a pretty picture. I can't imagine a worse scenario.

China has one very real fear, and that is that the U.S. will reprimand them in some way for aiding N. Korea directly, so they WILL NOT get involved in the war. They may send weapons or something, but to be completely honest the war will end so quickly it wouldn't be meaningful.

Why is China scared? Well, our military grandstanding (ohai nuclear submarines that surfaced a few miles from our shorelines, you weren't supposed to be there) and over all military power would pretty much ensure that China would not come out of a war on top. This is why they have been tying our economy to theirs over the past thirty-forty years, and why they have been developing principally defensive weapons (like the super-fast anti-carrier rockets, America is really the only country with a significant naval force that acts as an extension of power rather than a defensive barrier). In other words, a war with China would be too costly for us, but then, so was Iraq and Afghanistan and Americans really aren't known for their ability to refrain from pointless wars.

The war would go something like this: North Korea begins massive artillery barrage of US and SK positions, and on Seoul. Forty minutes later, the entire area of SK within range of the NK artillery is a no mans land. Commence movement of American carrier groups, endless bombing to hell of every NK position, possible use of a NK nuke following a complete abandonment by their allies, and then a swift and brutal end to what remains of the NK military. The now reunified Korean state is in complete and utter shambles, and a very, very slow rebuilding process begins. China now dominates the East-Asian economic sphere.

Japan will definitely enter the war, China will not (as much as they like allies, they aren't complete raging idiots either, SK and Japan are far too important as allies for us to sit idly by, and China hates that whole "not profiting" thing).
Oh, and China would not involve its Nuclear arsenal and Hillary Clinton would personally **** any general who even mentioned thinking about using ICBMs against NK, because of its proximity to two very large nuclear capable states. You can't accurately predict where an ICBM is going until its in its final stages, which is usually too late. Use of more conventional means of dropping the bomb might happen, but its still unlikely. It would, however, be the first major conflict between two nuclear armed states, which is a terrifying prospect. For evidence regarding Clinton's anger with army generals, I point to a time when some idiot mentioned re-purposing ICBMs as long-range cruise missiles. The facepalm was visible from space.
