What's wrong with the Rifter?

So I have just come back from a 2 year break and I have noticed 2 things. Heaps of tech 3 destroyers and what happened to the Rifter?. It seems out classed by everything! By every thing I mean all other tech 1 frigs. Were the frigs at tech 1 rebalanced so well that the old Rifer is now over shadowed. Guess you call it the good old power creep. What do you think? Still trying to catch up with every. The 2 years really was too long of a break, too much has changed.

Frigs were re-balanced, and also some of the modules (propulsion, tackle, etc.), and weapons, so the meta has changed and people favor different ships. It's not that the Rifter is overshadowed, it's that it's no longer the only ship you see everywhere.

T3 destroyers are everywhere because their abilities are new and cool, but as far as frigates you have an even representation across the races.

Yeah, CCP doing what they do best, messing everything up. Don't even wanna talk about the hack job they did to Dramiel.

Loud obnoxious people tend to come...and GO. The more reserved are in for the long haul. Management's error has been in kowtowing to the shouting of the moment, and forgetting which side their bread is buttered on. SO..in order to feed the mythological beast of "you gotta have new stuff or people get bored and leave" they gave us a few things we could do without, and of course the loudmouths they were catering to have long since left for other games to ruin.

Seems to be the way of things.

But..what's wrong with the Rifter? Nothing that I can see. It's easier to fit, and very functional. The issue becomes "role". What "role" do T1 frigs have anymore? Small gang? That's still supposed to be a thing, but yeah, dessies seem to be the only ship anyone really wants to play with...especially considering the gankfest this game has become.

Before the changes Minmatar was the race to pick for PVP, which was bad, and most ships were terrible due to their tier and bad balancing. Then tiers got removed so there wasn't one good frigate/cruiser/BC/BS per race anymore, they were all sort of equal and THEN everything got buffed while Minmatar remained the same. Add Tracking Enhancer nerf to that and you end up with the situation where Minmatar is now sub par.

Lots of frigates are now fast & capable and they changed the Rifter from having a tracking bonus to a falloff one. This forces it to scram kite which is fine but there's other frigates out there that do it better in regards to speed, dps etc. It's not a bad ship a such, it's just very pigeonholed into a specific play style most people don't do.
