With the 118.6 release, a new breed of capital ships is arriving, signalling the dawn of a new era in capsuleer warfare.

Stronger, tougher, more formidable, these hulls are designed from the keel up to punch back at the empires that attempt to bring their pilots to justice.

Read more about the introduction of the first of this new breed of capital ships in the latest Dev Blog from Team Five-0 here.

Only in fiction can someone reverse-engineer a ship, submarine, plane, anything, and come out with a BETTER version as a result.

In RL, you reverse engineer because you don't have the technology, materials, or expertise to have your own ship, submarine, plane, whatever program, and you copy someone else's designs poorly (because, again, no tech, mats, expertise).

And if there's so much room for improvement in Gallente supercaps, why exactly aren't the Gallente immediately improving their ships? After all, it's critical military hardware, and if the Serpentis have the budget, I imagine the Federation does too.

You know, I once made similar observations about all pirate ships.

"You know, a volatile group of misfits hiding out in a rock in the distant reaches of space with no appreciable social structure to support them, oddly creates military technology far in excess of military empires with literally *all* the social, financial, and technological resources at their disposal".

But, for game purposes, pirates have to be cool, instead of underfunded rebels relying on civilian-grade equipment.

The REALLY odd thing though, is your point about reverse-engineering actually comes into play...for the military empires. All these blueprint copies dropping all over new eden, those very ships being built in their starbases, but they can't seem to figure out how they work to build their own - with literally thousands of blueprints and built ships sitting there in the parking lot (ship hanger) they own.

It's the bureaucracy and entrenched interests. Someone's trading money for power behind the scenes of empires to keep the status quo of manufacturing in empire. Just go with it unless CCP puts out a new story.

I also go with the story that my ships don't have crews. My level of control over aspects of my ship is handled via technology. You could use the official Wiki to contradict me, but.... P

You realize both the Russian and the American space program started by reverse-engineering V2 rockets, right?

Yes, the initial results of reverse-engineering rarely if ever are an improvement over the original, but they definitely can be improved upon.

Stronger, tougher, more formidable, these hulls are designed from the keel up to be used by the rich elite due to build costs and are still just as disposable as their counterparts. They will get called primary Every Time one lands on grid, which of course will render them all but useless in an actual fight.

They may have found a place in one of the large capital fights TQ was famous for but they are a thing of the past, due to limited travel ranges and the fatigue placed on pilots who may want to use such overpriced, disposable, copies of the common capitals. . It is very unlikely this new breed of capitals will be seen often enough to justify the costs of owning one. Except of course for those with too much isk and no sense.

I like the 37.5% Role bonus - Works out at around 3 bil (the cost of a combat ready Moros) per 1% extra DPS - For the cost of roughly 12.5 Moros's, you can have 1 Dreadnought that does 12.5% more damage (for a few minutes).

If you really want a Dreadnought that is a Serpentis look alike - Buy a skin for your Moros (it will cost you less than 2 bil or $20 and last forever) and save the rest to replace you Moros each time it is easily killed in combat. After all, 50% more EHP just means you may survive a few seconds longer - Not really worth the hugely additional build costs.

My opinions are mine.

  If you don't like them or disagree with me that's OK.- - - - - - Just don't bother Hating - I don't care

It really is getting harder and harder to justify $23 a month for each sub.
