Date: 16.21.06

Today I graduated from the Federal Naval Academy and was apparently given a ship. The last few hours are a bit hazy and I can't remember how I got into said ship, but it is registered in my name legally under Gallete law. I awoke in the middle of an asteroid belt floating in a Velator class frigate. It's not much, barely more than a fighter with a warp core, but It is much better than any of the training craft we were stuck with at the academy. There were several low grade smugglers in the asteroid belt (maybe that is why my memories are fuzzy?) and I took them out because CONCORD had issued a bounty on them. I took all three of them out with minimal problems, but I don't think combat is going to be for me.

It may sound strange to say, but mining is the true reason I wanted to become a Capsuleer. My late sister, who was not fortunate enough to have the right gene strains for cloning technology, worked for 30 years before she could afford enough ISK to be able to buy a Venture class Frigate, and she died aboard it with all six of her crew soon after. I on the other hand was lucky. And with the graduation funds given me by the Academy I think that down the road I have a decent shot at setting up a mining operation that will last for some time.

I did some reading and have decided to invest some time in learning how to fly a Retriever class mining barge. I already have a skilled crew lined up as soon as I have the necessary skills in order to fly it. In the meantime a Venture is the logical first step. I expect it is a dangerous place out here so I'm investing some time first into learning how to control some defensive drones. Don't want to be caught completely unawares afterall.

Funny. The last thing *I* remembered before I became a capsuleer was lying on a bed with medical equipment with my clone in a pod looking mighty serene over my head. Next I was conscious I was staring down at my own body on the bed.

Other than that the edgy crap at the end, solid advice.

On the topic of the Venture, the Venture is a relatively recent addition to the mining vessel roster. I can't quite imagine her working her arse off to get into a Venture considering that Ventures had been around for less than five years (need to check databases to confirm). You sure she wasn't working for some other ship like the Burst or the Bantam or the Navitas (used to be mining frigates before they were refitted for logistic duties) originally?

If you are not flying a Procurer, or planning to fly one in the future, you are doing something wrong!

I hear ya on that one, thought they had some issues in their leadership shortly after those bee guys fell. Honestly I really could be wrong as well.

I started my career doing mining! I still mine most of my own ores when I'm building something. If that's how ya want to make ISK, don't let anyone tell you it's wrong. Also never, ever buy a "permit."

Choosing a Retriever is your best way to meet CODE soon. These guys may make your life and life of your crew a little more exciting but short.

Veldspar is a space garbage: it's the most common, highly demanded, but still the cheepest ore around. If your ambitions may drive you further than just being a mindless mining drone, put your eye on something more profitable, like ore anomalies or ice belts. Talk to some old miners or find a corp who may take care of ya.
