Checking out Null-Sec

I don't play EVE a lot, and I'm pretty casual, so for the 6-7 years I've played this game, I have mainly stuck to high-sec care-bearing it up. I've done the faction warfare thing (fleet/gang ops and missioning), some industry (POS research, T1 production, mining), some hauling and trading, low-sec exploration, even some daytripping in wormholes. In all this time, I've never even entered a null-sec system. Until today that is.

I used a spare character slot (not this guy), made the best sub 900k skill point character I could (with a wide variety of core, frigate, small weapons, weapon systems support, navigation, e-war, and exploration skills, with none being trained up more than level 3), did a bit of research, and set off for a likely NPC null-sec system.

Avoiding the auto-pilot choke-point, I got 5 systems in before seeing another capsuleer (some guy passing through like me apparently). I was at my destination by the time I saw anyone else in local (two people station spinning and another doing whatever). I was a tiny bit disappointed that I didn't get blown up. At the very least I wanted to practice avoiding drag bubbles and some other stuff I read up on.

Now that I am here I want to try to live off the land as best I can. I won't be killing many 0.0 rats in my frigate, with my skills, but I figure I can do some ninja salvaging (maybe ninja looting too). Heck I might mine some of these mythical rocks I've heard about out here in a mining frigate.

I'm under no illusion that I'll make much ISK, but the goal is to try to be self-sufficient, without gifts from my "main", have a little fun, avoid getting kilt, maybe even meet some people, and generally see what all the fuss is about.

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone had any advise for me? Things to do, things to look out for, whatever. (Be snarky if you want. I'd be disappoint-son if I didn't get some of that here.)

My expereince has shown me that you cant fly in null as you do in high becuase of the drag bubble. I've seen multiple bubbles placed around gates guaranteed to snarl you while you are blown up by waiting pirates. You have to use out of the way routes...jumping to moons and planets in between gates.

One last world of advice....STEALTH is your friend. Never go into null without a cloak.

I think it's a shame someone as adventurous as you took so long to step into null sec.

I took 6 days to get into null after starting EVE. I feel safer in null sec than I do in empire.

That would be true only if you have a super neg status.

Because it is safer in Null then it is in Empire.
