Backstory - So I first got into EVE some months ago, but thanks to my job I havn't had time to play for a while. Things have since calmed down and I'm trying to get back into EVE.

What I was doing - PVE with Caldari missile boats, a Kestrel and just before I stopped I had finished first epic arc and switched to a Caracal. I've got about a million skills points atm.

The problem - For starters, my previous Caracal outfit dosn't seem to work any longer, presumable due to nerfs. My capacitor. I've attempted to fix this with a capacitor booster II, medium. Aside from this, I'm just not sure what to do with myself. I want to PVE, or maybe mine (I have some skills in both, although mostly combat). I'm just looking for a little guidance, or maybe even someone to give me a hand in game or to play with.

My current Carcal outfit WAS

Low slot - Ballistic and Damage control.
Medium - Shield Boost Amp 1, Medium Shield Booster 1, 10MN Afterburner, Medium Shield Extender, and a Magnetic Scattering Amplifier 1.
4x Malekuths, and a Salvager.

As I recall this was just me copying a build I found on the forums previously.

So to conclude - Any advice or nudges in the right direction to ship design would be greatly appreciated.

First get Evemon to get your skills straight, then EFT or Eve Fitting Tool to design your ship.

Also got to Battle Clinic to look for some builds.

That should help.

Ya the caracal hasn't been touched in years, it was always that low on cap

Here's where to download the latest EFT btw https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=24359

I use eft and eve mon on occasion however, I tend to use EVE HQ more often, cause it has fitting and skills all in one. There is also a pos builder in there too.

There is a new version of eve hq available http://www.evehq.net/

As to the fit for your caracal, you can better help your fitting depending on the missions you are running. Sometimes I use an active tank for missions, relying on a cap booster and sometimes dual reppers, eitehr shield or armor depending on many things, but, For the most part, I find I have a better time using a buffer fit, fit with the correct hardeners.

I can understand your frustration with work and loss of time in Eve. As the same thing has happened to me too several times. Just keep on trucking, and remember that you can always keep your skills going!

So, you are using caldari ships for pve... ok. Caracal is ok, Try getting into a drake... that will give you much benefit when you get access to lv 3 and even lv 4 missions... although lv 4's can take some time if running them solo. :) I can run most lv 4's in my hurricane, and we all know, the drake has a much better tank that the cane, Although, maybe not as much dps... :) Damage per second. I prefer to buffer the dmg, while dealing as much dps as possible... I stay aligned, and kill warp scramming frigs asap, and if I get in trouble, I just warp out, dock, recharge my shields, undock, and Im back at it. :)

Whom are you running missions for, like as in what corp? what lv?

Using http://eve-survival.org/wikka.php?wakka=MissionReports this resource can be a life and time saver.

If you are running missions that deal a specific dmg, then fit them hardeners only... I prefer to use an invul, and a specific for one or two of the specific dmg types... Even when using one shield extender... the three hardeners can give you nearly if not more ehp, than having two hardeners and two shield extenders. This you will ahve to try out in EFT or EVE HQ, in the fitting options... Use all skills five to see best fits possible, but update your characters API into the program account feature, to update you actual skills into the program. This will allow you to see your capabilities as your character is. :)

Lets play with the fits...

[Caracal, 1]

5x 'Arbalest' Heavy Missile Launcher (Caldari Navy Scourge Heavy Missile)

INSERT THREE DMG TYPE HARDENERS HERE
Large Azeotropic Ward Salubrity I
Y-S8 Hydrocarbon I Afterburners

Damage Control II
Ballistic Control System II

Medium Anti-EM Screen Reinforcer I
2x Medium Core Defence Field Extender I

Use of a 3% powergrid implant with engineering lv 5 will work with this fit...! it will get you with min skills 150 dps, 1200 a volley with heavies... better for cruiser class ships and med to med long range.

[Caracal, 1]

5x 'Arbalest' Heavy Missile Launcher

2x Non-Inertial Ballistic Screen Augmentation I
2x Large Azeotropic Ward Salubrity I
Y-S8 Hydrocarbon I Afterburners

Damage Control II
Reactor Control Unit II

Medium Anti-EM Screen Reinforcer I
Medium Core Defence Field Extender I
Medium Ancillary Current Router I

This will work well too, I may have mistaken in my claim where two shield extenders, 2 hardeners vs 1 extender 3 hardeners, but you can play with this and prove me wrong. :) Its good for you to learn to fit, and become a fitting whore, if you want to really dive into Eve. :) no implants needed here, and you get a bit more EHP for the specific faction agent you are running missions against.

That is one reason I like EVE HQ more, for fitting, is cause you can select the faction your are running up against, and it calculates that tank info to the dmg they deal. :) So you can select caldari navy, as your enemy, and see the adjusted resists to KIN dmg. :)

If you are on lv 1 and 2 missions, then maybe using assault or standard missiles is better. Ya know, bigger missiles dont work well on smaller ships, so, Choose the right ammo. Small frigs and destroyers and cruisers, you can use small missiles. for cruisers, battle cruisers, and battle ships, you can use heavies... even cruise missiles on battleships, along with torps. You want to best match the explosion radius with the ships sig radius... thats where I am getting at. If you use heavies on a frig, it may not be as effective as using assaults, which are small missiles... :)

Here is a lil guide to dmg types for npc's... If you are getting mainly kin dmg then some thermal, maybe you can fit one invul, one kin and one thermal hardener... see>?

Thanks for the replies everyone. They have been helpful, and informative.

As for the missions I'm running, tier 1's and the first epic arc has been my limit so far - that was all with the Kestrel, I literally upgraded to the Caracal on the last mission or something.

EDIT - I'm sitting on about 20 mil if I should switch outfit or something, incidently.
