Question about the Capsuleer writing contest...

I am wondering if there is a limit on how long a submission for the writing contest can be.

I am writing the background story for this character beginning on her deciding to become a capsuleer and continue through her 'career'. I have been playing since August 2013 and I write to relieve the stress of working in a hospital IRL. I would like to finish and clean up the first chapter as my submission but I am already at 22 pages on Microsoft Word and I am not done yet. So how would I go about releasing the first chapter for submission?

And would I need CCP approval beforehand since I do mention her home planet and system a few times, along with an NPC corporation that she becomes a part of? I don't want to anger anyone at CCP and get in trouble.

Any information would be greatly appreciated. When is the deadline for the submission?

P.S. I also have a couple of stories in the Pirate Story forums on my solo highsec wardecs starting here. That is but a taste of my writing style.

Hi!

If you are referring to the writing contest detailed in this post then I can help. On the first question, the rules are that a submission may not exceed 30,000 words, which is quite a lot. Second question, no, in this sort of fair use situation you're well within your rights to borrow IP from CCP. And, on top of the law, I'm sure the fiction team is thrilled when players take a crack at exploring the world of New Eden through writing. Thirdly, the deadline for submission is October 30th.

Finally, just in case there is any confusion, this is a player organized event and takes place ICly. That is to say that this is all in character. The contest happens within the world of Eve Online and what you submit should be from your character, not you as the player.

I hope that helps. :)

Thank you for replying.

I am sure I can work around the 30,000 words and clean it up to submit it. My story is written from her point of view, not a third party watching her. I will work and get this submitted, but at least I can remember the deadline since that is the day before my birthday. :)

I will get my submission in when I can. Thank you.
